Final per KHSAA scoreboard.

Really? I don't care about the circumstances, this is ridiculous.

2 nights after beating Caverna 101 -10.    Someone needs to tells someone else to knock it off.

I don’t know the answer, but something needs to be done.

Yeah this one can't be justified, and neither can their previous game.

IMO, If you go up 50 the game should just end.

Its no consolation, but If you look at the stats they let everyone score...its not like Leah Macy had 50... everyone on the team scored 10...

I have said my peace about this before, it's exactly what @1992Rebel stated, there should be a "Mercy Rule" in High School basketball just as there is in High School soccer.  Plain and simple!  This is a pure lack of leadership from the KHSAA rules committee in regards to this particular High School sport.

Unfortunately, we have coaches and High Schools that can't police themselves by having good sportsmanship, therefore the KHSAA has to set standards to not allow this from happening.

Every YEAR you have a handful of contests that this happens and every year the same disappointment amongst us are stated.

Purely disgusting.....

I was under the impression that there was a running clock in basketball.

Did some digging in the KHSAA Board of Control meeting minutes.  It looks like the Running Clock for basketball was approved on April 18, 2012.

I think it is time, I believe a "Mercy Rule" to discontinue the game should be part of a Board of Control agenda in the near future to stop this craziness.

Everyone on the team scored except Zoe Thurmond who didn't play. Five scored in double figures, only one of those above their season average.

To your first point, at least seven other "All 'A' Classic" games would have been cut short at some point.

• 2024 All 'A' Classic (to date) ~

Owsley Co. 85 June Buchanan 14 (+71)

Harlan 76 Oneida Baptist 12 (+64)

Owsley Co. 77 Cordia 22 (+55)

Jackson Co. 73 Red Bird Christian 18 (+55)

Metcalfe Co. 67 Russellville 12 (+55)

Menifee Co. 66 Fairview 14 (+52)

Owensboro Catholic 56 Cloverport 5 (+51)

• Running clock starts at +35. There are 12 more games in the +40-49 range (including four 9th Region games).

10 more games finished with the winner +30-39, seven of those most likely with the clock running.

• Not so fun fact ~ Presentation beat Beth Haven 60-20 in the 6th All 'A' semis; lost to Shawnee by 48 in the championship game - and they 'might' have been down by 50 at some point. Stopping play in a title game for a 50 point 'mercy' rule ...

For those that don't know the "running clock" rule in basketball.  The game clock after a team is up by 35 points should not stop unless:  Charged time-out, an injury/blood or disqualification, and immediately following reporting of a foul if free throws are to be administered.  In regards to a foul resulting in free throws, the clock will start again once the free throws are completed by either a miss or by an inbound throw in on a make.

Which I come back to this game, for example....let's assume that Bethlehem went up by 35 points when it was 41-6.....which should have begun the "running" clock....that means Bethlehem had to drop 61 points like they were Troy in 1992.  Run N Gun baby!!!

I did some 'analytics' based on readily available data and drawn some conclusions. I've run them by some current/former coaches, players, and broadcasters in my 'hot stove league' circle.

Here are some links to both teams'  KHSAA 'home' pages (scores, rosters, stats) and to the latest Massey Ratings. I'd be interested in what other points folks find relevant to this game. PM me if you like.

For now, I'm going to say this margin was on the far end of the possibility continuum, but not unexpected.

Correct, and I think THAT is the change that needs to be made.  There is no need for normal clock rules so the halftime score can be 70-5, or whatever.  At least put it into effect in the 2nd quarter, IMHO.

That seems exceptionally stupid.
