14th Region Week 4 Review

1) Perry County Central (7-3):  The Commodores went 2-2 last week and 1-2 in a holiday tournament in TN. The Commodores would run through Powell County 80-60 before heading to TN. Perry County Central would edge out Dobyns-Bennett TN 71-66 in the opening game of the Alpha Invitational. Perry County Central would drop their next two games in TN losing big to Winter Haven FL 85-59 and Jonesboro GA 68-61. 
 

This week: Wesley Chapel FL holiday tournament. 
 

2) Hazard (11-1): The Bulldogs ran their win streak to 11 after picking up two wins in the Smoky Mountain Tournament at Gatlinburg TN. They defeated Notre Dame TN 57-34 and Russell County 77-63 but that would be it as they would fall in the championship game, suffering they’re first loss of the season and end their 11 game win streak when they fell to Caldwell Academy NC 66-41. 
 

This Week: Fri. 12/29 Betsy Layne. 
 

3) Breathitt County (5-3): Bobcats have hit a little rough spot as they have dropped 3 of their last 4 games, two of which were to Paintsville 57-48 and Lawrence County 78-71. 
 

This Week: Southwire Holiday Classic at Owensboro Sportscenter vs. McLean County and Muhlenberg County. 

4) Knott County Central (8-3): Knott County Central also made the trip down to Gatlinburg TN for the Smoky Mountain Classic  They would pick up wins over Westmoreland TN 55-51 and Cumberland County 59-53. The Patriots would get dealt a big blow in the championship game of that bracket, by the host school, Gatlinburg-Pittman 76-39.

5) Letcher County Central (7-6): Another Kentucky team that made the trip down to Tennessee for the Smoky Mountain Classic but TN wouldn’t be so kind to the Cougars as they would go 1-2. They would fall in both first two games to McInn County TN 59-50 and Webster County 69-63. The Cougars would defeat Ridgeview VA 67-54. 
 

This Week: N/A

 

6) Estill County (7-2): The Engineers win the Berea Holiday Classic. The Engineers win every game by double digits. Estill County would get things started with West Carter and they were no match for the Engineers as they would roll past the Comets 66-38. Engineers would advance to face the home team, Berea. This would be a back and forth game before Estill would pull away and win by 10, 66-56. Estill would face the Menifee County Wildcats in the championship game, and this would be a tremendous game that seen several ties and lead changes until Estill was able to pull away in the 4th and win by 29, 77-57. 
 

This Week: Estill County Railroad Classic (12/28 vs. Lafayette). 
 

7) Wolfe County (5-4): The Wolves would not participate in any tournaments this week but they would play two games. They would fall in the first game to district for, Breathitt County 60-58. Wolves would counter that loss with a big win over rival Powell. County 77-69. 
 

This Week: Estill County Railroad Classic (12/28 vs. Holy Cross Covington). 
 

8 ) Powell County (3-5): Pirates dropped both games this past week, falling to Perry County Central 80-60 and Wolfe County 77-69. 
 

This Week: Pineville Tournament (12/28 vs. Raceland). 
 

9) Lee County (3-7): Bobcats have now dropped 4 straight games including 3 games in the Berea Holiday Classic, Menifee County 68-49, Metcalfe County 85-66 and West Carter 61-51. 
 

This Week: Lee County Bobcat Memorial Classic

 

10) Owsley County (2-9): Owls went 1-2 in the Bell County Holiday Classic, defeating Lynn Camp on a thriller 52-49 but that would be the only win as they would lose to Bell County 89-62 and Jackson County 80-60. 
 

This Week: Borderline Classic at Multiple Places vs. Barbourville and Trinity Christian Academy (Deltona FL). 
 

11) Leslie County (5-4): Eagles are on a 3 game win streak, picking up wins over Buckhorn 69-62, Jackson City 82-76 and Middlesboro 50-46.

This Week: Whitefield Academy Holiday Tournament. 
 

12) Buckhorn (2-8): Wildcats would drop two games in the Hyde Citizens Classic at Leslie County, falling 69-62 to Leslie County and Johnson Central 70-52. 
 

This Week: Lee County Bobcat Memorial Classic. 
 

13) Jackson City (0-8): Tigers still searching for that elusive win that they can’t seem to find. They would drop their game with Leslie County 82-76 this week. Can they get things turned around?

This Week: Smoky Mountain Classic at Gatlinburg TN (vs. Goshen OH). 
 

14) Jenkins (8-5): The Cavaliers went 2-2 this week in Happy Valley Christmas Classic at Elizabethton TN. They would defeat both Twin Springs VA 54-36 and Cedar View Christian TN 64-40. They would fall to both KACHEA TN 60-49 and Unicoi County TN 79-41. 
 

This Week: Jenkins Cavalier Christmas Classic. 
 

15) Cordia (0-9): Lions still struggling and struggling bad. Very bad. They lost both games last week by a combined score of 155-76. That’s almost a 100 point difference. 
 

This Week: Lee County Bobcat Memorial Classic
