Rankings from both Nations Elite and KSR for week 3.

For another opposing view:

1 Great Crossing
2 Newport
3 Lyon County
4 Covington Catholic
5 Frederick Douglass
6 Lexington Catholic
7 Trinity
8 Bowling Green
9 Male
10 Woodford County
11 Harlan County
12 Evangel Christian
13 DeSales
14 Mason County
15 Bryan Station
16 Boyd County
17 Cooper
18 Butler
19 St. Xavier
20 Madison Southern
21 Elizabethtown
22 George Rogers Clark
23 Washington County
24 Ballard
25 LaRue County

My observations from these three rankings:

-Great Crossing is the consensus #1 team in the state from these human polls.  If you check out @Runcible Owl's post about the Massey Ratings:

Great Crossing only checks in at #2 there.  But the human metrics have seen strong wins over Covington Catholic, Manual, Frederick Douglass, and Ballard, and made the call.  They will have a tough road in the King of the Bluegrass next week, but if they get past that, they could very easily serve as the top ranked team for quite some time.

-Lyon County and Frederick Douglass are the only two other consensus top 5 teams, though if you consider only the two "media" polls, Evangel Christian would apply as well.  The ranking by the individual - Lovell Martin - has Evangel come in at 12th. There are a few ranks from his that stand out as bullish at this point.

-Fairdale is the one that gives us the most "out of nowhere" rank.  Nations Elite has Fairdale ranked 6th - neither of the other two have them anywhere at all.  The Bulldogs are 5-0, but by no stretch have faced a murderer's row of teams.  Their first significant test should be this coming Saturday, when they take on Bowling Green in the Don Franklin Barren Hoops Classic at Barren County High School.  Then they'll have their chance to prove themselves in the King of the Bluegrass tournament they host.

-KSR has the most consensus overlap.  They have only three teams that are not ranked in the other two polls, all in the 20s (North Oldham at 22, Butler County at 23, Ashland at 24).  Both of the other two have some relatively highly ranked outliers.  Fairdale was already mentioned, but Lovell Martin is high on Mason County (14), Bryan Station (15) and LaRue County (25), while Nations Elite believes in Walton-Verona (14), Manual (15), Adair County (20), and Graves County (25).

-Nations Elite is way lower on Covington Catholic (10th vs. the other two having them at 4th), Lexington Catholic (13th vs. 2nd and 6th from KSR and Lovell Martin respectively), Male (17th vs. 9th & 9th), and Trinity (18th vs. 11th and 7th).  They're the only ones with Boyd County (7th), Washington County (8th), and George Rogers Clark (9th) as top 15 teams, let alone top 10.

-Bowling Green was an interesting one to me in Lovell Martin's rankings.  The Purples may seem a tough team to rate at the moment.  Their football players are just arriving back, and will need time to ramp up.  Of the two losses they took - both to teams that are consensus ranked - one was without football players and one was with.  Mr. Martin seems to be ranking Bowling Green as he believes they'll be, as he has them 8th, ahead of both teams that beat them (Elizabethtown at 21, Washington County at 23).  Washington County is unbeaten, but Bowling Green is the only team of note they've defeated.  Elizabethtown had the strong win over Bowling Green, but followed with a tense OT win over Central Hardin, and were dragged by Lexington Catholic the next day.  The Bowling Green win seems to be the lynchping that legitimizes either team - the coming weeks should tell us whether they were merely fortunate to play Bowling Green when they did, or if they're for real.

Anything else jump off the page to anyone? For my judgment, KSR is the most steady and reliable, which is what I would expect.  One of the others is seemingly crazy at times, and the other is one man's opinion.

Yeah CWB, don't like it?  Keep scrolling or make your own.

I've been super critical of "Nation's Elite" from day one, and then I see they have Walton Verona at 14 and just walk away shaking my head.

I think he might be a little testy about his hyping of Newport, who he then suggests is .... wait for it ... overhyped.

Christmas is fast approaching. Time for the snowflakes to fall.

Literally the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw his ranking was, why is Newport still ahead of CovCath?

I'm a simple man. I see the 'Dude', I "like".

And how is Etown lower than Bowling Green?  They won head to head - and I'm sure alot of teams are "getting their football players back" at that point, but you have to rank what you have seen.

Adair throttles Etown last night - wow.  That shocks me.
