January 22, 200719 yr No, the famous 18% are the idiots that believe Duke to be UK's biggest rival. Personally I think it's more then 18%. Look at how many on here have their day made when Duke loses. If Latner doesn't hit that shot then UK fans would give Duke a second thought. I don't. What a lot of these same people do not say is how the dislike for Duke extends across the country, especially along the far Eastern portion of the country, like any other polarizing team (either that or the coverage of ESPN and people that say you either "love them or hate them" is mysteriously altered across this state  ). I do not think UK's biggest college football rivalry is Notre Dame or Ohio State, yet people come out in masses when they lose and always have an opinon (same for the Yankees struggling, etc). Sure the '92 game put an everlasting bad taste in some people's mouth, but the bigger slap in the face to these fans is thought of not having the overall top program in college basketball; that game (or shot) is just icing on the cake to Duke's great run the past 20 years.
January 22, 200719 yr Has this thread really gone close to 300 posts? Wow. And I had no part in it...
January 22, 200719 yr And I had no part in it...  Surprisingly, I have been mostly an observer on this one, as well!
January 22, 200719 yr Farmhands part II kept it all going. Well, he did have to have someone arguing with him...

That may be part of it but I always believed it was the ones who love to bash U.K., Tubby and anything else about U.K. while still claiming they are fans of the Cats and usually don't show up untill after a loss. I can't stand Duke and was sick that day of "the shot" and quite a while after it but I don't go on about it. Just for the record, I disliked Duke before and after "the shot". This thread has went from a U.K. loss to Tubby bashing to the possible rebirth of Farmhands to the 18% and what it means. LOL. I think that I am done with this one, We (UK) play Ga. on Wednesday night so I will look foward to that one and the discussions after it.
January 22, 200719 yr Well, he did have to have someone arguing with him... Hey I just came in at the end.
January 22, 200719 yr Nice to hear from some of you guys again... Hadn't heard from you in a couple of months, wasn't sure where you'd gone. Good to see that when UK loses, you're still in full force. What good is cheering for a team when the only time you'll ever talk about them is when you have something critical to say? Doesn't it get old after a while not being able to enjoy wins because you're just waiting for that next loss? I can't imagine it being much fun. As for the game... Tough loss... A series of sloppy turnovers at one point where it looked like UK could take the momentum and the lead... Perry threw it away once and Crawford dribbled it off his foot and out of bounds and that really kept Vandy alive... A couple of baskets on those posessions and 'mo' is in their favor and this game could've been won. Alas, it wasn't. Nothing to cry about... Moving on to Georgia... :thumb:
January 22, 200719 yr I was in attendance and the thing that really gets me is that they continued to play zone when Vandy was hitting over 50% of their 3 point attempts?
January 22, 200719 yr I was in attendance and the thing that really gets me is that they continued to play zone when Vandy was hitting over 50% of their 3 point attempts? This is because Vandy is very quick and trying to guard them off the dribble would have made things worse.
January 22, 200719 yr If Latner doesn't hit that shot then UK fans would give Duke a second thought. Wouldn't have changed my opinion of Duke any. I have no problem with 'the shot.' RP gets the blame for that one. My problem with Duke is mainly the media bias and some of their fans. You can't turn on a Oklahoma - Kansas game on espn without having to listen to Vitale tell you how great Duke is going to be. As for their fans, not all of them are bad, but some are quite obnoxious, just as UK fans can be. Other than those two things, I have no problems with Duke what so ever.
January 22, 200719 yr UK doesn't have a "feather in the cap" win this year. Louisville is down. Indiana (13-4) may be their best win, but they haven't really sniffed the rankings yet. I think it says a lot for the current status of the program when there is a thread asking "WILL UK be ranked this week" instead of "WHERE will UK be ranked this week." And this comes without any mass exodus of players to the NBA or NCAA probation. Or maybe everyone is just getting better and Rick Stansbury was right after all. Well said:thumb: :thumb:

You must have hated UK in the mid 90's then.
