Definitely the most accurate HS passer I've ever seen, especially considering how far down the field he is willing to throw and the tight windows he puts it in.

He is extremely accurate, he reminds me of former Beechwood QB John Wischer.

Lots of comments on here about this years Beechwoods D. While the amount of pts given up is an attention grabber it’s still Simple to me. We are spoiled. The past few years of BW teams on Defense absolutely spoiled everyone.  They were arguably the best HS defensive unit 3 years running and have the hardware to prove it. Considering the size of classes (2A vs the world), and overall size of players, you witnessed greatness. Level set folks. The kids now are gonna be just fine and they have talent too. They are replacing many parts, a ? coach, have a new scheme, and just need some time. Keep rolling Tigers, and get well soon X!

SK played with only 5 Seniors on offense and 6 on defense.

I posted the stats never compared anyone.

As a passer - No doubt Hayden is better. He reads defenses much better, makes quick decisions and has a quicker release. This is where Hayden is top shelf. One of the best I have seen in high school in reading defenses and decision making. Arm strength and accuracy, close. Probably an edge to Hayden on accuracy and we'll call arm strength even.

As a runner - No doubt Hergott is light years better. Hergott was a better runner than passer IMO. Hayden is a pure pro style QB who runs just enough to escape pressure and find a receiver. Hergott is that dual threat QB, Lamar Jackson style. 

Clay is doing a great job this season (and last) ... I am not sure we can hand the accuracy title to Clay just yet (it is also hard to compare based on the key players surrounding each, the schedule, etc).

 

By my count Hergott was pretty accurate as well:

2020: 73% Completion Percentage

2021: 68% Completion Percentage. 

 

Clay is at 71% right now ...so it should be fun to see how things shake out. Both are great dudes who sell out heart and soul and define the meaning and philosophy of Beechwood Football.

On the accuracy, the numbers don't tell the story. You have to see it in person to see why Clay gets the edge. The throws Clay is making are very different. Hergott's accuracy stats were aided by his scrambling ability. He was able to buy time until receivers got wide open. To Hergott's credit, he put it in the receivers' hands. Hayden does not have that speed and scrambling ability. He is making throws in tight windows, often under pressure on timing routes and he is on the money.
