I don't know about everyone else, but Corbin at #4 doesn't even remotely pass the sniff test for me, whatsoever.

Obviously Corbin now has the two Smith brothers, which is notable. And I realize the only game we have to base things off of this season thus far is their 47-12 win over Hughes (OH) in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic, and the Big Red aren't exactly a slouch, but they aren't a really great team either.

I was curious about how high Corbin was ranked after Week 1, and then in Week 2 when I saw that Dixie Heights beat Hughes (OH) 33-8, that really told me that Corbin was being given more credit than they're due. Dixie's offense actually put out 50 more yards against Hughes last week than Corbin did in Week 1, despite Dixie scoring two fewer touchdowns than Corbin did. (Classic Dixie move, right there). Corbin's defense was more stout than Dixie's, holding the Big Red to 142 fewer yards, but Dixie did still allow fewer points than Corbin did, and Dixie also forced 2 turnovers against Hughes, compared to only 1 forced turnover by Corbin.

I went and looked on Calpreps, and checked out their projections against the rest of KSR's Top 25 for Week 2. Calpreps doesn't project Corbin beating any other team in the Top 25 until you get all the way down to #14.

#1 Boyle County 34 Corbin 21
#2 Male 28 Corbin 14
#3 Frederick Douglass 31 Corbin 14
#4 Corbin (1-0)
#5 St. Xavier 31 Corbin 21
#6 Scott County 30 Corbin 28
#7 Covington Catholic 31 Corbin 24
#8 Trinity 31 Corbin 14
#9 Christian Academy Louisville 27 Corbin 24
#10 Lexington Christian Academy 42 Corbin 38
#11 Mayfield 28 Corbin 27
#12 Beechwood 28 Corbin 22
#13 Manual 27 Corbin 17
#14 Corbin 36 #14 Bowling Green 35
#15 Pikeville 24 Corbin 21
#16 Corbin 28 Ashland 24
#17 Corbin 31 Owensboro Catholic 21
#18 Corbin 31 Highlands 28
#19 Corbin 28 Johnson Central 19
#20 Corbin 31 Raceland 21
#21 Corbin 34 Cooper 21
#22 Corbin 27 Central 13
#23 Corbin 31 Ballard 26
#24 Corbin 31 Pleasure Ridge Park 17
#25 Corbin 35 Bullitt East 21

Maybe @teeroy can enlighten us as to why KSR is so proud of Corbin right now. Is someone on KSR's voting committee a proud Redhound alum? ?‍♀️

  • To me KSR's rankings are for marketing/entertainment purposes so I don't get too involved pro or con with them.

Also, in terms of other teams' rankings, I don't see Ashland or O-Cath beating Highlands. And no way Raceland beats Cooper, Ballard, PRP or Bullitt East.

I'd say Corbin is so high up there becuase Ole Freddy Magard is high on the Hounds, and he's the only one that actually watches film and follows High School football in depth.

Or, consider Dixie may be a tad under rated right now. One of the best 1-2 teams out there. Which I think is right where they want to be. In the Hughes game Dixie could have scored more but just continued to run the ball and shorten the clock.

One thing I see is Corbin at least scheduled Frederick Douglass. We all know they are in the top 3 no matter who you ask. That’s note worthy in itself.

The KSR people rank teams higher if they have a UK commit/recruit on them.  Just look at their “Game of the Week” every week.

Their game of the week this week, I'm pretty sure is Shawnee and Jackson Co.

Jackson County making headlines... Awesome!!

I’m guessing you haven’t seen their games last year or this year.  But they are sponsoring this game.  If you kept up with their other games, it’s all UK players.  Not a criticism, because they are a UK media outlet.    https://www.on3.com/teams/kentucky-wildcats/news/kroger-ksr-hometown-classic-louisville-shawnee-jackson-county-preview/

How would you rank the teams differently?

That 42-0 shellacking over Phelps got the state of KY on watch.

If you listen to the second hour of KSR, they explain how this game started 4 years ago.  It was a story on ESPN.

KSR ranks teams higher if they have a Kentucky player or potential player.
