Do UK Students Need a Different Section For Basketball Games?

Featured Replies

Sounds good to me...

Does this mean you agree that you do think UK needs to do something to try to help make Rupp more of an exciting place to play?

Everyone and their cousin thinks they do.

GT's plan is the only logical one I've heard so far though.

I guess I am crazy then.. Because the program would suffer greatly if you take the money away from it. That's common sense.

But you have your opinion and I have mine.

So you dont think the University would try to find any other ways to make money then???

Sounds good to me...

I think they need to help the perception, and they can make a lot more money off the blue bloods with luxury boxes. Rupp doesn't show well on TV, and that's big these days...

Not true, Billyrayjoebob seems to think that Rupp is still second to none compared to any other areana. That is kind of why this thread got started up I think, because me and him was arguing about it in the P.P. thread...

I do agree GT's plan sounds very good to me...I know I actually would like it if they would just build a whole brand new areana...

:thumb: You are right on about this. And I must say I think you should propose your plan about what they should change about Rupp, because that was the best idea I have heard yet...:D

How many years has Florida been a top program in college basketball. Not many years at all compared to UK, so you really cant compare the winning percentages...Also but recently I would think Florida's winning streak at home is pretty high, because they have had 2 long winning streaks at home over the past 2 years, and are on another one right now...

Take their recent percentage and compare it with UK's at Rupp. It still won't be much better, if any at all. UK wins 90% of their home games.. It will be hard to find another team that can match that and I find it hard to believe that they're going to win many more home games just by moving the students.

Do you give the university millions a year?

Just wondering.

No, I don't.. However my family gives a pretty decent chunk of change to the school every year.

So you dont think the University would try to find any other ways to make money then???

Of course they would try to.. But why should they make an adventure out of it? Why not just sit back and let people hand it to them, as they currently do.

I agree they might not win many more games just by moving the students. But they could win a few more by doing that, and that could be a big effect on the team. Not to mention as GT pointed out having student more by the court or atleast on the camera view side would look better on TV, and that could actully help with recruits. Which in turn could maybe lead to a few more top recruits coming here, which would also help in getting maybe even a few more wins. So yeah we got a great winning percentage already, but it could also get better, and have alot of benefits for the team if more students were by the court...

I'm just a UK hater. What do I l know... ;)

I'll agree with that.. Perception is key. This is the reason most people who haven't been there think that Duke's students surround the court, it's all about perception. ESPN does a wonderful job of that for them, camera placement so they just show the students, microphones all around the court to make it sound louder on tv, and you can't forget the camera shaking during the UNC game.

There is an easy fix to this problem. To start make the first 15 rows on the camera display side students. Second you need to make room for luxury suites in the back 15 rows below the cameras. This will allow for the big money sitting opposite the bench to have a new suite away from court side, and the people you moved are not the blue bloods providing the cash...

No one will go from a seat on the floor to a box in the sky. From my seat on the floor last night I literally could not see the top rows of Rupp...it's like a mile away from the floor...

So the school should take away people's tickets, lose a lot of donations in turn, just so they MIGHT win an extra home game every couple of years? That makes absolutely no sense to me.

The camera placement is set for every game covered in history. It's an easy task these days. Build the camera placement with a view of your best foot forward. Take a look at the NFL. There are very few teams that have their games covered from behind the home bench. If you want to be a TV favorite, play the game...
