All I know is that I can speak from personal experience. I've sat in the UK student section (where there is a lot of energy) and I've sat in the sidelines (where people just sit there until something good happens). One is boring and the other is more exciting. I'd rather have the more exciting on the sidelines! Just adds more to the game.

The basketball team exists because people (mainly those you want to move to the upper level) donate large amounts of cash to the University to make it what it is today. Take away that money and you won't have a team on the floor that the students will even show up to see.

I think I am confused, does UK take all this donated large amounts of cash and buy players? If so we need a 6'9 power forward who can score inside and out. LOL :jump: :jump:

Lets see its during christmas break, so most of the students at the university go home for break, and alot of us dont actually live in lexington when we are not in college. But you know what for the most part the students still pretty much fill out all their seats during christmas break because even the games during break are usually around 23000 people there. But the reason for maybe one or two open seats in the student section would be because of christmas break...Also if the students had more seats in the lower arena it wouldnt' be any different than the people who sit in the lower arena now during christmas break. Because I know during break I still do go to games, and well during break alot there are alot of open seats that the older people usually sit in, so I move down from the upper arean and are usually sitting right by the court...So the people who do pay all this money for season tickets in the lower areana usually dont even go to their seats down the games during christmas break. So if students had those seats, it wouldn't be any different than it is now with open seats during break. Except that it still would be louder with the students in the lower section than the people who are not students...

 

 

So your telling me that a school of 30,000 can't find a few thousand students whom are still in Lex during that break that would want to go to a game? How come the student sections at these other schools you mention aren't half empty during the christmas break?

 

One or two open seats? The last game I was able to make it down for was the Houston game and the entire upper half of the upper level student section was empty.

 

As far as the students being in the lower level and it not being any different if there were a few empty seats. That's not true either. Currently those seats are already bought and paid for, whether someone shows up and sits in them or not. So no, it's not the same, the school would be losing tons of cash.

No.. But who do you think paid for the $30 million dollar practice facility? The students?

 

Nope.. The people sitting in those seats paid for it. Take their seats away and see what kind of privately funded facilities UK can afford in the future.

It was because they had a bad team, not because there weren't enough students sitting in lower arena.

 

Maybe, maybe not...If you remember alot of those losses last year came down to the final minutes. If more students down by the court, the louder and the more in the head they would have got into the other team. I mean visiting teams at the end of games are shooting at a basket with a bunch non students who are just sitting there doing nothing. If you had students yelling and going crazy down by the court and by the that basket it could allow the other team to just get nervous enough to maybe miss a shot that they made, etc. So having students down by the court could have affected the outcome of some games last year, because there were alot of close games that went to the wire at Rupp last year....

Not going to happen. I'm done. Graduate from UK, get a good job, give back to the University and maybe you can have lower arena seats the rest of your life...:walk: Again, UK students will never have more lower arena seats than they have now. And, they will never get the good ones either...:walk: :walk: :walk:

True, but once again having more students down by the court would help out the team alot more, and isn't that what everyone wants is UK to win...As I said before these other top programs that have more students on the court, still seem to have nice things even without the large donations, so why do you think that we wouldn't be able too?

I know that. But you said if it weren't for those people there would be no basketball team and we wouldnt' have some of the things we have now. But I ask you this, then how do these other top programs still manage to put all these students on the court, yet still have nice things even without all the large donations like we get?

 

So yeah once again Im pretty sure if these other top program can survive without the large donations, then I bet you we could too....
