10 Year Olds Working at McDonalds

Featured Replies

Night manager’s kids in the two 10 year olds working situation.  Not sure what was going on with the the other 303 situations unless I read that wrong.

Can't imagine the nightmare managing a fast food place must be in this era. Talked to a friend of mine who is a BK manager in the NKY area and he said it's a circus of never knowing who will show up, awful talent pool, unbelievable pressure from up top corporate wise....

Be kind to those working fast food.  They have your food before you do.  As a former Wendy's manager back in the 70's, I could tell you numerous horror stories.

I hear you. I worked at Hardee's in Ft. Wright in the early 90's with a bunch of high school kids from CovCath/NDA/Ludlow/Dixie. The stuff I saw.....wow. I could write a book.

No wonder McDonald's and others are working to automate the entire process.

Cheaper, more efficient, less headaches.   And with AI coming to the forefront more and more each day……just a matter of time before humans start getting replaced permanently.

Right, jobs are going away at the same time our population is exploding.  I think dark times are ahead.

Talking to friends in several different industries, it is getting harder and harder to get people to take entry level jobs. Especially hard to hire for jobs requiring any physical exertion. Jobs that are repetitive or physical in nature are easy targets for automation.

I also worry about where the upcoming generations are going to find work or build careers.

While population is increasing, population growth has been on a downward trend for sometime. People like citing laziness or handouts as reason people are not applying for jobs - and granted that might be some of it (probably no more than any other time, however) - but the reality is we do not have the bodies entering the workforce and those numbers definitely are not trending the right way.

We saw a massive increase in deaths and retirements during COVID and during that time doubled-down on challenging immigration policy. Mid 2010s we had over 1M new immigrants. About 250,000 in 2021. Estimates show we should be at about 2M more immigrants than we have, which makes up a large part of the skilled workforce.

A restaurant just down the road from me has a robot server.

Any word on if the 10 year olds or robots can actually get the cheese completely on the filet-o-fish? Asking for a friend that hates peeling cheese off of the cardboard box.

I think AI/automation will replace some work and this time it's going to be white collar workers that bear the brunt of that just like how blue collar workers bore the brunt of automation in prior decades.  However, I also think it opens up other jobs potentially as other massive economic changes have done ever since the Industrial Revolution.

I don't see it as humans getting permanently replaced, just shifted.

Generally speaking I know change leads to new jobs.  In this case you only need so many "robot repairmen" and then eventually the robots will be designing/building/repairing themselves so I am not as optimistic here.
