Open Job: Anderson County

Coach Mark Palmer resigned on Tuesday. Pate at of players seem to be upset. Haven’t heard one bad word about the man.

Coach Palmer inherited a team in shambles that was playing g in an impossible district. He struggled to win games. Rumor is the AD was actively looking for a replacement before terminating Coach Palmer. After learning about this, Palmer resigned.

If they could convince Jerry Perry to come he would be a good hire. Tons of success and very experienced. Coached there way back early in his career.

AC goes on Spring Break Friday. The announcement was expected prior to last day. AC admin didn't leave much space for official offers, counteroffers, counter-counteroffers, VA inspections, underwritin

  • They weren't exactly in an easy one when he was there - Boyle County, Lexington Catholic, and Bourbon County.

That will make me want to get my resume out. Is there any “smoke “ on the horizon? I wonder who could be their new “chief “?

Palmer walked into a hornet's nest. I'm with @random925 in that I've never heard a bad word spoken about Coach Palmer, but based on the goings within Anderson County and their fanbase when Palmer's predecessor Mark Peach was there, I don't see why anyone would come into that job expecting anything but trouble.

Good luck to the next man up for the Bearcats.

Here are the two threads from the last time the Anderson County job came open:

From Coach Palmer. What a good guy:

I want to thank the faculty and staff at ACHS for working with me to develop young men of character, thank my staff for the dedication and loyalty in laying the foundation for the future, and most importantly thank the young men that have given their all for the Brotherhood. The trials we have faced the past three years have prepared you for your future. Covid, injuries, and disappointments are part of life, and I know that you are men of integrity with great character that will be successful after high school. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your coach. I love you and our Brotherhood is for life. With that being said, I am resigning as the head football coach. I am going to explore my options and trust God to show us the way. #grit #brotherhood

Have much respect for Coach Palmer. He was always first class when our teams played. Best wishes to him going forward. He is a strong man of faith and will land on his feet. Romans 8:28

Moving up to 5A in that district isn’t going to make this job any more appealing to anyone. This seems to be a tough situation for someone to walk into.

Don't know much about the guy, but watched them play Lincoln Co. a few times during his tenure and seen some offensive schemes I've never seen ran before.  Maybe football junkies can enlighten me on it that know his system.  Good luck to the guy.  Anderson Co. used to be a proud program that has gotten their heads beaten in quite a bit recently.

4-27 in last 3 seasons. 0 playoff wins. With the new district alignment, the teams  Anderson will have in their district went a combined 36-14, and had 3 teams in a Region-Championship game. Not exactly a perfect situation for a new coach to walk into.

I'm not sure, but it really seems like Anderson County is just in a bad spot all around. Either hire a guy with experience, or blow it all up and go fresh. Glad I'm not making the decision!

Goodluck to coach Palmer as he moves on to new things!

Completely agree, having to face Boyle or Lex Cath in the first round of the playoffs probably didn’t help the number of players either.

Looks like they ran the double wing with some single wing mixed in.

Not a word. I don’t expect this job to get as much attention as other jobs this cycle. Can easily see a first year head coach or a guy ready to finish a career end up here. We will see!
