"Pendleton County High School would like to thank Coach Sam Elsbernd for everything he has done during his 4 years as head coach of the Wildcats. At this time, Pendleton County High School is in search for a new boys basketball head coach for the 23-24 season."

Sam is a top notch guy, and was always great to us on the broadcast. It didn’t matter the outcome, he’d join us for the postgame interview.

Wow, that didn't long.  Does this open the door for Mason Monroe?

I see him as the first choice.

Probably.

I would like to thank everyone for the support over the years. I loved my time here as the coach and I continue to wish the program well. Please continue to support the program, the players and managers deserve it.

I could thank a million people for the past four years, but I just want to say anyone who took the time over the years to do anything for the basketball program, thank you so much.

Sam Elsbernd contributes to what's good about basketball. Aside from coaching with class, against Paris on Senior Night, he put senior team manager Rylee Spence in to start the game and Spence scored his first varsity points and wound up with five. We hear about these kinds of gestures all the time but they never get old. Imagine the thrill that kid got because his coach was thoughtful and kind. That's a priceless memory. It will stay with that kid the rest of his life and his coach will always be a hero to him. And why not? Elsbernd served in the U.S. Navy. He knows what it's like to give of himself to others on a level most of us don't. Maybe he can find his way back to Holmes. He was on staff for the 2009 state championship team under David Henley. Elsbernd can coach. He needs to find a decent program with some patience.

Return of Keaton Belcher?

Sam won’t do anything to get himself on the news for anything other than winning basketball games.

Why do they struggle to get players?  Don’t they have similar demographics to Grant and Harrison Counties?

County schools are only as good as the feeder program. Harrison will drop off after next year, the next good group is in 3rd and 4th grade because parents are investing in those kids.

Does Coach Kelsch make the jump back over to the Boys side?

Monroe or Kelsch would be great!

Sam is a great dude.

This one has been eerily quiet... only news I heard was there were 4 applicants, none of them "local" ( their word, not mine, so I'm not certain what determines "local'), but that was right after the Regional Tournament started.
