Male lost to Bullitt East 28-27 in the 6A State Championship. Male last won the championship in 2018 and has played in the championship every year since 2018. Male will have to replace QB Lucas Cobbler and all-state RB Daniel Swinney. They do return most of their receiving corps which will be a strength for them. On defense they return their top 3 tacklers and all 3 of them are linebackers so that will be a strong position unit. Considering their streak of championship appearances and with the players they return it would be no surprise if they make a return to the championship. Top returning players:

QB Kolter Smith 56/96, 871 yds, 12 tds, and 4 ints.

RB Chayce Burton 199yds and 2 tds.

WR/DB Antonio Harris 684 yds and 10 tds.

WR Max Gainey 445 yds and 5 tds.

WR Josh Fuller 212 yds and 2 tds.

Defense:

LB Kevin Wilson 145 tkls and 4 for a loss.

LB Solomon Conley 98 tkls and 2 for a loss.

LB DeAndre Malone 98 tkls, 13.5 for a loss, and 7 sacks.

DE/DT Bryce Strickland 38 tkls, 3.5 for a loss, and 2.5 sacks.

WR/DB Antonio Harris 12 tkls and 1 for a loss.

I mean Male does return three starting OL, I guess you didn't watch the playoffs last year the oline took it to St.X. That group got better as the year went on. Which should also be a strength in which you failed to mention.

Sorry, I just pulled off stats from KHSAA. This is to start discussion so thanks for adding that. I don't have time to watch film of every team to parse out every starter.

Male has a center who is really, really good. That being said, Swinney seemed to be met at the line a lot this year compared to the year prior. Without Swinney (for the period of time that he was hurt), Wolfe chose to run a lot of empty backfield sets for what seemed to be a lack of confidence in the run game. It'll be interesting to see the style of offense he chooses to go with heading into next year with studs like Gainey and Harris as WRs and the loss of Swinney in the backfield.

Male struggled throwing the football consistently, which lead to a few of their loses last season. Finding a replace for Swinney will be key for the Male offense this offseason. Also, Swinney took a beating over the last two season, so finding a couple of RB options is big too.

And there is a difference between a typical HS RB and Daniel Swinney.  That kid was big, fast, delivered the blow and was very difficult to tackle and usually got better as the game went on.  You don't say that about many HS RBs.  Just sayin.
