I'm not real sure what the beef is with the OC. The team averaged 40 points a game and will continue to evolve.

I have known what you stated since day one. The OC is in his early twenties, with no previous experience that I know of. Highlands has plenty of coaches, perhaps  one of the other coaches could assist the young inexperienced OC. Obviously he can't handle the job by himself. Could be other job openings at the school that he is better suited for, and it doesn't have to be on the varsity football program. I will leave it there.

Congrats to SC for the hard fought win.

Special Teams is a combination of KOR, KO, Punt Return, Field Goal, etc. While not perfect, the Special Teams were stellar all season and put us in opportunities to win Football Games.

Charlie Noon is an amazing talent  and a pleasure to watch each and every week. Davis Burleigh set the school record for field goals and will be sorely missed. The rest of the special teams were well prepared and executed at a very high level. I will agree that there is always room for improvement but I am more than proud of these boys and the coaching staff. 

You are correct about my prediction for the Frosh Team but look out for these kids in the coming years. They are SPECIAL and will do Big Things!

I agree that special teams include all you mentioned and exactly what I commented on.  Let me expound a bit to clarify.  Kickoff return appeared to have no real scheme or there were a ton of missed blocks.  Same for punt return.  Class was a nice punter, but again protection scheme was not good as evidenced by several blocks during the year.  Yes Burleigh set school record for field goals but not many kickoffs in end zone.  You counter that with directional kicking and taking away half the field.

100% agree with you on the efforts, hustle and desire of the kids throughout the year and that is credit to the seniors.  Now young guys have to take the momentum and get this team back to state championships.

 

The OC is an easy target for many but Highlands was the highest scoring offense in N. Ky. this year. In what I watched of Scott Co. game, the offense was arguably the best performing group for Highlands.

Some things never change. Whenever the Birds lose one of the position coaches get the blame.... especially the guy that coached a group that put about about 40 in 12 games! 14-9 and 1-2 in playoffs for new regime. Not quite like the guy they fired who played some tougher teams. 5A is loaded right now. Folks watch TV and think that HS kids can put together these game winning/tieing drives like the NFL. Seldom happens.

D gets my game ball.  Giving up only 29 points after all the turnovers by HHS. Being down 14 points in the first qtr.

The defense gave up less than 29 points. One of those scores came of a blocked punt return.

I’m truly asking this out of interest. What blown assignments did you see? I could see saying that early on in pass coverage.

The way it works is you catch the ball while making the catch your feet land on the ground and then you end up falling in the end zone from the 5 yard line in… that is not a safety. The differences in this case was the Scott County guy caught the ball within the 5 yard line landed on his feet and then ran around making multiple football moves into the end zone and got tackled. He rolled the dice and got busted or didn’t know the rule. I guess it was lucky for Highliands? They got two points but a drive was killed by the pick. Almost a wash to Highlands.
