Is there any result by Newport Catholic this week that makes Class 1A a three horse race instead of the suspected two?

Beating Beechwood by 21+ I’d say.

Biggest stat line I'm looking at is Newport's passing attack amassing 345 yards against NCC's defense and the Wildcats scoring 26 points that night.  Put lightly, that doesn't bode well for the B

  • This is a good test for Beechwood prior to the playoffs to see where the offense and defense stands without Berger. Last week I believe the Freshman could have come in and held their own against Newpo

  • I respect Beechwood and NCC as programs.  Do I think NCC could beat Raceland and/or Pikeville, sure it's possible and not a stretch to say so.  I think Beechwood is probably better than Pikeville, but

That was my line of thinking, too.

Here are the new TP94 Power Ratings for these teams:

Beechwood 101.83

Pikeville 101.04
Raceland 93.91
Newport Central Catholic 75.56

I would say for NCC to make it a three horse race the game with Beechwood would have to be competitive and NCC would have to keep it within two touchdowns which is much different than both of you think.

Ok that’s fine, I just don’t think a team that lost to 2022 Cov Cath at home is untouchable. It’s not like they lost to St Xavier by 7. Just saying they’re beatable for sure.

I’m not saying they can’t be beat but it would take a lot.

Calpreps projects the following:

Pikeville 28 Beechwood 22

Beechwood 34 Raceland 21

Pikeville 38 Raceland 21

Different or difficult? I have no illusions this game will be close. I suspect Beechwood wins by 28 points and wouldn't be surprised by a running clock. I also believe they'll be in over their heads against either Pikeville or Raceland.

Different, each of you suggested NCC needing to win by 21+ against Beechwood to make it a three horse race, I am saying they have to keep it close and be competitive.  Different, way different. ?

Makes sense now. I read that three times and it wasn't clicking for me! ?

Are the TP94 Ratings weighted by class? With that rating for Beechwood, It would have then favored over every 6A school other than St. X. They are also rated higher than CCH who handled them easily. Just curious.

Interesting that so many are so certain this could be a competitive game, a running clock can be avoided, and - in some cases - that NCC could win.

For those of you on that side of things, help me understand what is going to be different this year than in the last 7 of 8 matchups that have been largely one sided wins by Beechwood? Also, and this is the big one and has been mentioned a few times, how do the Breds', who were shredded by Newport's passing attack (that Beechwood, put simply, steamrolled) to the tune of 345 yards by Kyle Lee, plan on stopping the Tigers very effecting aerial assault?

I am going to hand that one off to their creator @Tigerpride94?

I am chit chatting in this thread about future possibilities but again to be clear I think this will be a running clock Beechwood victory.

I understand your thinking here but on paper, Newport's passing attack is just as good. Lee has more yards and the same amount of TDs as Hayden and Harney combined. Also, with Berger out, you are missing your 3rd leading receiver.

I think Beechwood wins this by running clock but not necessarily because of the passing game. I think their Defense will shut down NCC and their rushing attack will still be key. I think teams will be happy if Beechwood airs it out. They have only passed 141 times vs. rushing it 245. Running attack and good D is still Beechwood's bread and butter.

I’m under the impression beechwood rolls. I will be upset if NCC makes this a close game, if I’m being honest. That would be a step backwards for the tigers after losing Berger.

Does anyone know if this will be streamed anywhere?
