Yes they can…but it’s going to take an awful lot to beat St. X.  They are clear cut favorites to win 6A in my opinion.

Just a few final thoughts from this game:

1). Antonio Harris is the real deal.  Hard to believe he’s just a sophomore

2). Lucas Cobler is a tough kid.  He took a few absolute shots tonight & stuck it out.

3).  The 4 headed monster on BEs offense showed up tonight.  Mason Gauthier is the most underrated RB in this state.

4). BEs defense, especially the secondary, answered the test.  The d-line was able to get pressure rushing only 3 for a good portion of the night & that was huge.  They forced at least three times as many 3 and outs or turnover on downs against Male than in their previous 5 meetings against the Bulldogs combined.

Having coached many of these boys in youth league & into middle school, words can’t express how proud I am of these young men.  They believed from the outset they could play with Male & they did.

The senior class at Male doesn’t have nearly as much talent as previous years. 

Male had a starter out on O-line last night and certainly didn't help considering the Oline has struggled against better teams this year. He gets evaluated this week and might be back for Manual game.

 

I didn't realize that Daniel Swinney didn't play last night. His 4th straight game of not playing. I wonder when or if he will be back. I saw Max Gainey played which I believe was his first game back.

No he didn’t & Male went with an empty backfield for much of the game.  They eventually brought in Burton to play RB some & ran the ball with a little success, but not much.  The defense for East stepped up big.  Most of Male’s rushing yards came from Cobler being chased out of the pocket by the DL or QB draws.

HUGE win for the Chargers. Congrats.

Male has been a confusing team to figure out this year. Might be the injuries, I'm not sure.

Combination of a few things, I think.

- The losses of William Spencer and Jeremiah Collins to transfer over the summer was the first chink in the armor. That's two Power 5 kids gone. 

- Then you pile on the injuries to Swinney and Rainey, two of the state's elite at their positions.

- All new faces on the offensive line. And as TP94 said above, there have been injuries there, too.

- Nic Shutte was really great for Male last year. He was never quite shown the love he deserved because of Sivori, Hergott, and Humphreys. The quarterback play this year for Male hasn't been bad by any means, but it's nowhere near Schutte level good.

That's a lot for a program to overcome, even for a powerhouse like Male. Bullitt East having its best team in ages served as the coup de grâce for their hold on that district.

That's a head scratcher for me. Male always seems to have an up and comer in the backfield waiting in the wings, but not this year? I would have expected Swinney's backup to be a capable ball carrier.

Burton is going to be a good one but he’s only a freshman. 

What a great game played by Bullitt East on both sides of the ball. Congrats on a program changing W for the entire program. BE did what it had to do. They believed in their own abilities and carried it out. Shoutout to everyone on the team. Especially Travis Egan (QB) who also played on the defensive side of the ball. Had one of the best hits on D that I have seen all season. Kid is one tough athlete. Cam Brogan and Nolan Davenport also played on the Defensive side which was a huge boost for the Chargers. Mason Gauthier is simply a hard nosed under rated running back. Happy for Coach Kendrick and staff. Time for some people out there to give BE some respect. This has been in the works for the last four years. The road does not get any easier in the playoffs with Cross Districting. After Butler, then Manual. Get past them and then St. X. But as I have said before, the game is on the field and anything can happen. Charger Nation is proud of you Chargers!!!
