Chiefs sending Hill to Miami

Featured Replies

When I read the thread title (knowing the Chiefs are one of the best teams in the AFC) I was happy but that is a lot of draft picks and I think the Chiefs are the winners here.

It will be interested to see how this plays out because I think Tyreek Hill still has a lot of good football left in him, but the history of the NFL says you always trade early on wide receivers instead of late. And while Hill is an all-Pro caliber player, receivers such as him can always be found in the draft and/or free agency. There is risk in this trade but maybe not as much as you might initially think.

Wandale to the Chiefs.

Tyreek is pretty special, and I wouldn't say guys like him are a dime a dozen. However, he is approaching 30, and usually disappears a handful of games every year. They might have only gotten one or two more elite years out of him if they had decided to keep him. The Chiefs will still have a solid core of receivers and can address several needs with the draft picks. As was mentioned this might be a better deal than one might think.

Disagree on wide receivers such as him can be found as easily as you made it sound.

It honestly will be interesting to see how Mahomes does with the change. Basically the whole time since Mahomes has been at QB, he has seen defenses that were always 2 safety high because of the fear of the deep ball to Hill. Which also then open things up for Kelce. So teams may be able to do different things on defense now that Mahomes hasn’t seen much of yet.

I made it sound easier than it is. However, my point was that you get rid of receivers sooner than later. We know what Hill has been, which is hard to replace, but will 2022 Hill be that much different than a good draft/free agent/trade pickup? What about 2023?

I will take the other side of this one.  It will be interesting to see if Hill, with Tua throwing to him, on a team that most believe will be less creative and unique than the Chiefs, continues to be an elite WR.  WR is so dependent on the QB and the system.  We will probably never know how far apart the two sides (Chiefs and Hill) were on a new deal, but personally, I would have taken less to stay with Mohomes, on a winner (assuming the money was close).

I agree, on some level it would be like Burrow losing Chase.

Agreed, because I think the Bengals will see nothing but two safeties deep now. Since Chase kept proving how dumb it was not to double him and keep a safety deep over time of him. Teams kept testing it out last year, since Chase was a rookie. I don’t think teams will ever really not keep a safety over top of him now. So the Bengals running game, and short passing game should open up more because of it. While the Chiefs, may now have defenses sitting more on routes since defenses won’t be as worried about being beat over the top. Mahomes may even get blitzed more, so will be interesting to see how he reacts to that.
