Covington Holy Cross 85 Holmes 75 (35th District Semifinal)

Recommended Posts

Holy Cross was up 24 at one point in the third and Holmes cut it as low as 8.  Calloway took over and HC struggled from the line. Maddox Hoffman was clutch going 6/6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.  Calloway ended the game with 47.  Meyer led Holy Cross with 35 breaking the Holy Cross all time scoring record previously held by Joe Harney.  Survive and advance.

HC is lucky to have a fan like you, RJAL.  Good luck against the Colonels.

He was pretty much unstoppable and didn’t miss the second half.

Official stats courtesy of the Statman.

Holmes 12 11 19 33 - 75

Holy Cross 22 21 18 24 - 85

Holmes (11-17) - Q Calloway 47, Pouncy 15, Commodore 7, Garcia 2, Boyd 2, Boone 2.

Holy Cross (20-8) - Meyer 35 (8 rebs, 6 assts), Ward 25, Gibson 8 (9 rebs), Hoffman 7, D Arlinghaus 5, Pulsfort 2, Lehmkuhl 2, Z Arlinghaus 1.

* Holy Cross jumped on Holmes early and had their biggest lead at 53-25 early in the 3rd quarter. Give Holmes credit behind Q Calloway getting red hot in the 2nd half, the Bulldogs got as close as 8 with 3:00 to go but couldn’t get any closer.

Congratulations to Holy Cross junior guard Jacob Meyer who finished with 35 points and broke the school’s all-time scoring record held by Joe Harney.

Finals Friday night at 7:00 pm

Hard to believe Ervin Stepp is not on that list. Didn't he average around 60 points a game one season?

Something is wrong with the KHSAA records.  Stepp scored 75 points in a single game vs. Feds Creek in 1980.  But when you look at the records for most points scored in a half, you'll see the list provided by Brcatz.  Scott Moore scored 55 in a half, and then the list goes down to those who scored 30 in a half.  Stepp is nowhere on that list.

It's mathematically impossible for him to have scored 75 points in a game without at least scoring 30 in one half.

Chris Harrison went for 72 at Augusta around '90.  Seems he would have been on the list as well.
