Walton-Verona 76 Dixie Heights 64

Nice win for the Bearcats.

Wow, okay Bearcats.  Thought the Colonels would have enough to tough one out, but happy for WV with the nice win.

That's twice this year that Dixie followed a good win with an unexpected loss. They beat Highlands, then lost to Beechwood the next game. They beat Conner, then lose to Walton-Verona.

If WV has the 3 ball dropping, they're not an easy out.  Just ask Highlands.

I know DH is really, really, good, but Walton is far better than their record suggests.   This wasn't like losing to a bottom-feeder.   Bearcats beating some quality competition here late in the season.

They are the top-scoring team in the 8th at over 73 ppg, and their shooters are legit.

Looks like Wogenstahl didn't play for Dixie.

And it's no secret that this very much matters. That's like cutting off a big arm of the beast. Probably saving his broken nose for the postseason.

That's not a recipe for postseason success.

To be fair, Walton Verona is very, very good OFFENSIVELY.  They are below average on the other end.  Against better teams, that matters, you can't just expect to out-score everyone.  Smithers is great, and plays with the confidence that you need from an alpha player, and there are some other guys that can certainly make shots.  However, their post-season will depend on their ability to sit down and makes stops, and they have not shown the ability to do that.

I agree 100%.  That's absolutely a very fair assessment.   It's why Walton still isn't yet one of the elites in the 8th.   Ultimately, you have to make stops.

My point was simply that - with an offense such as theirs - they are very much capable of winning over ranked teams on any given night, without it being considered much of an upset.   At the end of the day, it's all about points, and the guy with the most points wins.

Nobody should be shocked when W-V knocks off a "name" team.

Victories over Highlands and Dixie Heights - and others - illustrates the point.
