You are probably right about Poplin, but he did get significant playing time.

My opinion of the team keeps changing too - mostly that they are improving.

I like what im seeing too Graybeard.(IMO)This team is ready to get after it .The o-line fires off the ball quick and the backs hit the hole and dig for yards, The defense unit is swarming to the football and hitting ,i kinda like the looks off the new LB core.We will see this sat.:thumb:

Good to hear from you Jericho! I think this team is making big strides - but we'll soon know how far they have to go.

For anyone that is interested here is a link to a nice feature story about Matt Thomas at QB.

:thumb: Nice read about Matt. I have watched him develope as a player and as a young man through the years and I have been impressed in both areas.

I wish him well.

It is great to see the kids working hard and making improvements. I hope they start to gel the second week of the season:lol:

With this offense we must sell the fullback and the way to do that is to get good carries from that position. If that happens we are on our way to great option football.

What kind of team does Woodford Co. have compared to Ashland ? I was reading the previews and saw that Johnson Central and Woodford were the front runners in the district. I knew that J. Central would be the favorite but assumed that Ashland would be 2nd. I assume that Ashland is expected to be the number 3 team but I don't know much about Bryan Station next year.

The new districts are going to have the Tom Cats traveling quite a bit. Coach Hart didnt seem to pleased about that.

Last year Woodford Co. finished with a 8-4 record with losses coming against Henry Clay(2), Lafayette, and Scott Co. I dont know what they have coming back but I as well expected to see Ashland at #2 in the district right now behind JC. I look for Bryan Station to be the surprise team of this district.

Does anybody know if the Albers an Carter kid are as good as I"ve heard? I belive Albers is the FB an Carter TB. I havent had a chance to get over to practice an watch yet. What about the O-line & D-line I heard of a couple of big kids that were sophmores were pretty good?

I'll take a shot at it BadCat.

Josh Alber (So.) is good. He has worked hard in the weight room and has a good attitude and work ethic . IMO he is a challenge to Jeremy Nethercutt (Sr.) for the starting FB job.

Rashard Carter (So.) looks very good – a lot of raw talent. But, he needs discipline and polish IMO. He could have a bright future at TB. We also have Josh Miller (Jr.) and Blake McLeod (Jr.) at TB – McLeod is on the injured list right now.

The starting O-line looks to be: Stacey Bester (Sr.) at center, Justin Pennington (Jr.) and Josh Salisbury at tackle (I think these may be the ones you're hearing about). I think the leading contenders at guard are: Trey Keaton (Jr.), (Taylor Walker (Jr.) or maybe Brad Workman (Jr.) - not sure which, I think I'm getting my names confused) and Proc Robinson (So.) – in no particular order. It seems that there are a lot of 2-way starters on the line. But, the Tomcats have decent depth in linemen and I think the coaches want to use a rotation to keep fresh players in the game.

These are just my observations – as fans, we’ll all know more after Saturday’s scrimmage at Campbell Co.

After today's scrimmage this Tomcat team has some work to do. If they can get a few breaks to go their way early in the season and pull off some wins, some much needed confidence will help revitalize this Ashland program, which is coming off some heavy losses to graduation, and will help them later in the season.

There's nothing like the smell of football in the air. If only we can get mother nature to cooperate a little bit.

I thought after the first series or two that the Camels might run away with this one. However, Ashland showed some great athleticism and heart. The starting QB is a tough kid and has good speed.

I agree...football can't get here fast enough. Good Luck to the Tomcats :thumb: this season. A class organization with a great deal of tradition and fan support!

Watch out for montgomery county. They have some playmakers in qb Caleb Curtis and wr Jamil Owens.

I agree with CCFC on the scrimmage, it looked like it was going to be a long day for Ashland but after the first couple of series it became one of the hardest hitting scrimmages I've seen in a long while. Both teams had several bone jarring hits as the teams exhibited great enthusiasm and fire. I came away from the scrimmage with the feeling that both teams are going to be good this season but as always this early in the season both teams still have plenty of work to do.
