What about the CCH game would elevate the confidence of the team? 

Playing some armchair coaching, I, too, hope you are correct about Benke and Noon. I have always believed in getting your best 11 on the field at once to set your team up to be successful. In my opinion, having Benke play more QB would allow for this to happen; Noon can be moved around on offense to get the ball in his hands more AND he could take some reps in the defensive backfield.

After last week's offensive display, simply turning one more page in the playbook would be opening it up more. Hopefully, that happens.

I think not getting smoked by Cov Cath on a year where we don't really have a ton of Sr depth has got to be a confidence builder, we lost by 1.  If Field Goal doesn't get blocked we might have won the dang thing.  I think the defense played incredibly good.  The tackling was much better along with the D-Line I thought.  I agree, the offense was very vanilla.  How many times did the ball ever get attempted to Benke out wide?  I think the answer to that was ZERO if my memory serves me right.  I LOVE your comment if the playbook was just turned over it would be a great improvement!  I put a lot of that on the inexperience of Hayden....not only are we dealing with mostly a team full of Jr/So we are dealing with a Rookie OC, you put those 2 ingredients together we have a season that we have which offensively is a "work in progress".  Which hopefully needs time, and luckily I believe the Ft Thomas (insert what you want to call them) is giving this staff and this team just that, which is a great thing!  Now granted in the passion of the game I heard a TON of parents going crazy around a vanilla play calling but at the end that vanilla play calling almost beat a team we haven't beaten in how many years???  Again a made FG at the end we would have been calling Hayden a methodical genius.

Regarding Benke's targets, I do not think he or Matteo Matteoli were targeted at all last Friday. With Welch out, those two guys and Hinegardner and Lloyd have to be targeted more to try to somewhat open up the running game. 

Not getting smoked by CCH is a positive, I agree. But HHS had numerous opportunities to win Friday and didn't capitalize. I would also argue that HHS was in a position to win despite the play calling; which I guess could be a positive. Hopefully, they will have another opportunity in a couple weeks to capitalize. 

 

The concern I have for Highlands tonight is big letdown from last week and unfortunately more of the same from prior years and that is having the confidence and desire to get things done when the sledding gets tough.

Normally I would have the same concern but this game is so big (at least in my mind) and the Bluebirds lost last weekend so there is no room for any kind of letdown by Highlands.

I thought the same about the Conner game and they laid an egg.  Agree 100% this is a big game, if for no other reason than a confidence booster heading to playoffs.

I think HHS will struggle to move the ball on the ground against Cooper.  I see Cooper winning 21-7.

I have valid concerns.  I hope the boys rally offensively and the defense has a stellar showing once again. Like it is always said next Man up. I expect the boys to understand what is in front of them.

Big 5A game with huge district implications.  Cooper has a 7 point loss to Ryle and a 4OT loss to CovCath.  Highlands seems to have their QB decision made and are getting healthier week by week.   HHS held CCH to 8 points and snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory.  Cooper has more confidence in this game than maybe any in their brief history of this rivalry.  Highlands wants to regain the confidence they had with wins over Bowling Green, Simon Kenton and Campbell Co early in the season and only have a win over Boone County since.  On paper this looks like a Cooper win with that dominant defense they have surrendering only 12 point a game.  But....there's something that just tells me this one is going to be a really close game and comes down to the wire.  The exciting news is that this game can be seen on (859) Sports Radio!!!  Click here.

IMMHO, considering HHS is in a total rebuilding season, Coach Sphire has done amazing things with the team this year, the school, school spirit, rallying the school around the team, the team around itself and the team wanting to be there, be better, rebuild, the parents wanting to be there to back the BIRDS to rebuild. I have not seen School Spirit like this in YEARS. Is it going to take any Coach to turn a team around in less than one season, OF COURSE IT IS! PEOPLE WHERE ARE YOUR HEADS?
