Purple88 Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Never Say Never – Bowling Green at Greenwood Greenwood should spray paint that on their chest this week as they look to host Bowling Green with arguably their best opportunity to stay in the game for as long as I can remember. Bowling Green has won 31 straight games vs the Gators and everyone associated with this specific game knows that. And as Dragonfire reported in another thread, Greenwood has only been within 18 points twice of BG, and none since 2004. Is this the year? Last Week: Both teams were on their bye weeks with Fall Break. I will add that the week prior Greenwood blew out district mate Christian County 39-7, while Bowling Green had no answers across town at South Warren losing 36-7. This week: The Gators come in this game as hot as they’ve been in many years with a 6-1 record, although Glasgow did blow their doors off on September 24. They are led by a rushing attack that features 3 RBs including: Tel Tel Long (62 carries for 483 yards and 5 TDs), Jaylen Brock (59 carries for 353 yards and 5 TDs) and Marquese Trussell (40 carries for 251 yards and 2 TDs). On defense they are led by JR LB Lofton Howard with 52 tackles and 7 tackles for loss and 6 sacks! For the Purples, getting a week off is likely a good thing. It’s been a rough 3 week stretch where stiff competition, some key injuries and continued disjointed play, especially on offense, caused the first 3 game losing streak in roughly 20 years. In years past, this game was just an afterthought. But that would be unwise this year. I’m sure BG will watch the Glasgow film and ensure they are good with trying to stop the run. If that’s the case, I find it hard for Greenwood to stop the streak, but then again, BG’s offense has been struggling for a while. Can they break out on Friday night? What are the keys to this game?
Tigerpride94 Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 I'll go with BG by 14. Some recent meetings. 1
LongTimeReader Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Bowling Green returns from Fall Break with a win. 35-7 Purples. 1
Tkinslow Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 I think BG still wins but I do believe it will be close something like 21-14.
Killowatt59 Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Greenwood's schedule is garbage. A lot of Greenwood fans are going to be really disappointed come Friday night cause they got their hopes up. Some have even been talking some smack. Whatever. BG wins 24-7. 1
Spartandad Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 I'll agree that Greenwood has had a very easy schedule this year. It's about to get a lot tougher though, with Bowling Green and South coming up. Their one loss so far was to Glasgow, a 3A team. Glasgow has always been pretty tough and underrated. They're currently ranked higher than BG in the state by maxpreps, with their only loss to the undefeated Woodford county. Honestly, I believe that Glasgow would be able to beat Bowling Green this year. So, I wouldn't just look at that loss and discount Greenwood's chances. Nevertheless, I think that Bowling Green will come out on top for a few reasons. First, I think BG's defense will stifle Greenwood's running attack. I also don't think that Greenwood's defense will be able to apply enough pressure on BG. I think the main factor that is going to play to BG's favor is psychological though. Greenwood is going to go into the game with the sense that BG is better than them, regardless of whether that is reality or not. There is just so much history of BG destroying Greenwood that they will not be able to get over it psychologically. Final score: BG 21 - GW 14 1
Brown Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 This is a 2-horse district year-to-year and I see no change to that. BG 28-7

DevilMayCare Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 The last couple of years, this is where Greenwood's season has gone south after a great start. With BG being down this year, it could make things interesting tonight. I'm still rolling with the Purples, though. When a series is this one sided, the the team that's historically been on the losing end of it has to prove me wrong before I'm ready to pick them going forward.
Bud_Kilmer Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 Dont see Greenwood winning this game. This game can be held closer than it has in the past perhaps. BG pulls away late. Bowling Green - 27 Greenwood - 13
Killowatt59 Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 Weather may have a big impact on this game. As well as many others. Hopefully the lightning will stay away at least.
Purple88 Posted October 16, 2021 Author Posted October 16, 2021 Purples took kickoff and we’re driving in Gator territory. But at the GW 20 roughly lightning strike so game delayed. 8:50 to go first quarter. BG and Greenwood scoreless. Going to be a long night.
Purple88 Posted October 16, 2021 Author Posted October 16, 2021 Playing football again at the Swamp. after a couple change of possessions. Matrix Halcolm runs it in for BG. BG up 7-0 mid way through the first quarter. 1
Purple88 Posted October 16, 2021 Author Posted October 16, 2021 LB Tyler Moore for BG with a terrific one-handed INT and string this drive at the GE 20.
Purple88 Posted October 16, 2021 Author Posted October 16, 2021 Purples with 30 yard FG. Getting close to 2Q. BG 10 GW 0 1
