Only because the expectations of some are insane. Most people on here talk about Notre Dame “disappointing” but the reality is they have two playoff berths and a BCS final in the last decade. If that’s the bar for disappointment then there are 125 disappointments “every year.”

I think it’s more of the National Title contender talk almost every year, when in reality they haven’t won a title since the late 1980’s and don’t appear to be close to anyone one.

Alec Pierce finished with 144 yards on 6 catches... In front of 27 scouts from 17 different franchises.

I understand. But I’d argue that statistically they’ve been closer to a title than all but about five teams in the last decade. And how have they been any more disappointing than say Georgia which is annually mentioned near the top and has made only one playoff appearance?

Georgia has underperformed as well (I say that as this could be their year).  ND though, captures so much attention annually because of NBC and their history.  I think for the last decade we all thought the were a lot better then they really are.  Reminds me of the Dallas Cowboys.

Notre Dame paid UC $1.2 mil to take an L and end their 26 game home winning streak.

UC now holds the second longest home winning streak. 

If the Irish actually wised up and joined the ACC they'd still have an outside chance.  The ACC on whole is not good this year, and being the conference Champ would at least put you in the conversation.

Their own ego costs them there.   I know they like their tradition and being in a conference would ruin a bit of that.   But be honest, they haven't been serious contenders in over 30 years.  The rich tradition doesn't save them anymore.

Huge win for the Bearcats. Can't wait until Friday Night at Nippert.

Simply not true. The years they made the playoffs they deserved it. They simply lost to the best team in the country in those losses. People see how their semi final games go, and forget the teams that beat them. Also then went on to beat down their opponents in the title game too. Much like last year how Notre Dame actually had basically the same result against Bama as OSU. 
 

Now this year Notre Dame simply is not good. Honestly I don’t think they are a top 25 team. Their strength in the past use to be the o line. This year it is a weakness, they truly have no QB, and the defense seems to be in a transition learning Marcus Freeman.

In the last 10 years they have played in the National Championship, and been to the playoffs twice. So let’s not act like they have been in the dumpster. They have had more success then everyone besides maybe 5 teams over the last 11 years.

I said serious contender, They may have been in the CFP, but they stood no chance.
