Bellarmine is starting sprint football like Midway. So he will be starting the sprint football program from the ground up. Good luck to him and I’m interested to see how the program develops.

Is it 8? I thought in the press release they said they would play 11 man with the 178 pound limit.

In its current form, it is organized under the direction of the nine-member Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL), which consists of teams from the eastern U.S. The addition of the separate Midwest Sprint Football League, with its own by-laws and championships, will represent the largest single-year expansion of the sport in nearly 90 years. Joining Bellarmine in the MSFL will be Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.), Fontbonne University (Mo.), Midway University (Ky.), Quincy University (Ill.), and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (Ind.).

You are right. I was getting it confused with 8 man football. Same rules as regular football just has the 178 pound weight limit.

I know a guy about my age who played at the Naval Academy. There's been a small league up roundabout the New England area that's been around since the 30s. I believe @Tigerpride94 may be a little bit mistaken about the 8-man playing squad, because I was always told the Collegiate Sprint Football League was originally started among colleges with football roster numbers that had shrunken during the WW2 era, but still wanted to be able to field a football team. Those colleges were holding open tryouts for football, and formed a league to set a weight limit on players so no one would be scared off by the potential for getting smashed by a 300lb lineman.

Bellarmine is going to be one of 6 founding members of a new sprint football league, the Midwest Sprint Football League. As far as I know, the only difference between the CSFL and the MSFL is the roster size. CSFL allows a roster of 65, and the MSFL allows a roster of 80.

Also, watch out Woodford County, Franklin County, Scott County, and the like...Midway University us going to be a part of the MSFL, and they announced that they're in the market for a coach, so you better be on the lookout that your coach doesn't step out on you at the beginning of the football season.

Does anyone know what the numbers are like in the DeSales football program and how they compare to the recent past?

I was told have 47 kids and two years ago had 105.

It looks like their roster is up to date on the scoreboard. Showing 42 players. They usually seem to have more like 60 or so players from what I can remember in years past.

Losing Coach Scroggins had to be hard on the team. I think they also lost some players when there was a to-do back in May over whether or not Davis was looking into the Butler job. I know at least one or two players are at Evangel now.

I've heard rumblings about some heartburn between Davis and an administrator. Not sure if that's true or not though because the AD has been there for a lot of years, and the principal and assistant principal have been around for neighborhood of 5 years. That's not to say that something couldn't have potentially come up in recent months.

I believe TigerPride was referring to the program as a whole (including frosh that don’t dress varsity). However you are correct in the 65 varsity players in 2019.

The scoreboard shows 14 freshmen on the 65-player roster for DeSales in 2019. You're telling me they had 14 freshmen dressing varsity and still enough to field a freshman team?
