Chris Henry, fresh off a poor performance Monday night when he appeared to give less than his best effort, received a vote of confidence Wednesday from his quarterback.

 

"I'm hard on Chris, and I told Chris that earlier this year," Carson Palmer said. "I pulled him aside and said I'm going to be a nit-picker, you're going to hate me. You're not going to like me because I expect greatness out of you because you have greatness in you."

 

Henry has 29 receptions for 451 yards and seven touchdowns. He tried to catch a couple of passes one handed against the Colts, leaving another arm in for protection.

 

"There have been times when he's taken plays off," Palmer said. "And I've told him about it, and he's come right back with 100 percent effort and tried to work to get my trust back, and he's done a great job of that."

I wouldn't say he "deserves" it, but that's probably the best approach for Carson to take.

Hopefully this might shape him into a better WR for the Bengals.

Really, I think maybe in all of this that we're overlooking how smart a move the "vote of confidence" by Palmer actually was. He has to do what he can with the hand he's dealt. When you need a stroke on the ego so you don't get alligator arms in the next big game, which happens this weekend, Palmer has to use the media to play mind games with the pistoleer. When in actuality he wants to call him a Wussy in public, he chose to stroke his ego a bit to hopefully incite him to play to his potential (i.e. grow a pair).

Actually I think part of the problem is that early on in the season Carson was putting his WR's in situations where they were going to get hit - and get hit HARD. Chris Henry was one of the WR's that took a huge hit, and after that he's been a little hesitant to do it again...and it's frustrating, but can you blame him?

He looks pretty good with a uniform on but remember this is a guy arrested on weapons charges. IMO that tells me he is not very brave. Million dollar talent and 10 cent head. :fight:

Maybe so, but how many times have you seen Henry catch a pass that was overthrown or thrown behind him or a pass that no one thought he could get to that he ran down? Palmer is the leader of the offense and needs to get on players when they don't perform but at the same time he is in a team sport and has to shoulder the blame as well. Does he say the same things to a 6'6" 260lb. offensive lineman when he is getting up off his backside after getting sacked for the 5th time in the game? I doubt it.
