I will take one more shot at this and let it go but a Kentucky vs. Xavier first round NIT game sounds awesome to me.

Xavier coach said today they were looking for an opponent for this weekend prior to selection show. My guess is they're trying to boost their resume. My second guess is there's no chance Kentucky is playing another basketball game this season.

This season is so whacky. Just the fact you can do this kind of scheduling is crazy. If UK was ever going in the gutter for a year, this is the year for it to happen. It appropriately ended on a Thursday mid-day on the SEC Network, just over a year since their season-ending win at Florida by one point.

Never been this excited to see a UK basketball season end.

I am a huge Xavier fan now and although this may unpopular they don't belong in March Madness and I think the NIT is exactly their speed.

Agree, whacky is a good word.

It has actually always been allowed. Saint Mary's did this a few times over the last decade. It works better for schools that play their conference tournament the first weekend instead of the second (like UK or Xavier).

I found it fitting that it came one day shy of exactly a year after the cancellation of the SEC tournament.  It was a year ago today that the NBA suspended their season, and all the dominoes fell.  Prematurely ended the season for a good Kentucky team and began the circling of the drain that this season was.

I believe that was second season the NCAA allowed multiple teams from one conference to make the tournament. So basically it hasn’t happened since the beginning of at-large bids.

Where does this rank historically as a bad season?

This is Kentucky's first losing season since 13-19 in the 1988-89 season (Eddie Sutton's last season). Also, prior to 1989 the next losing season for Kentucky was the 1926-27 team that finished 3-13. So this years team was about like a 100 year flood. lol

This may sound weird, but I feel this team was better by season's end than the 2013 team. They had the Noel injury, but that is part of the equation. You had Jarrod Polson playing significant minutes.

It is not an excuse, but the COVID off-season was probably the difference in this team finishing where they did and being a bubble team.

But you are what your record is. This one goes down in history!
