Gotta believe it’s Kevin Ollie. Stinks maybe the worst  Coach ever to win a title did it against Ky. Louisville destroyed them 81-48 and then again by 10 a week later playing ZONE. If CAL would have zoned them maybe he doesn’t have 1.

I agree that Kevin Ollie is probably one of the worst coaches to win one. With that said, it is funny to me. That the main reason this thread was made, was basically to try to take another shot at Calipari lol. 
 

Which to add to it. Kevin Ollie in their six game title run,  beat a lot to coaches that UK fans have mentioned before that they would like as coach. That UConn team beat Jay Wright and Villanova in the second round. Beat Tom Izzo and the Spartans in the Elite Eight. Then also beat Billy Donovan and the top seeded Florida team in the Final Four. 
 

So yeah this basically was just a thread to try to take a shot at Cal. By trying to make it seem the easy thing would have been to play zone. When yet, no team team or other top coaches were able to stop that UConn team. So yeah obviously just playing zone, was not the easy simple answer in beating that team. When none of those other teams or great coaches were able to beat them either.

I agree. UK wins that game by 10 if they had played zone. 

Ollie's a good choice, but I might go with Rollie Massimino.

I will go the unpopular route here:

Dean Smith - With as much talent as he had in Chapel Hill, to only have 2 titles.   I think they won in spite of Dean

Al McGuire - Went out on a high note with a title in 1977, but was a mediocre coach

Tubby Smith - Even UK fans ran him out of town

Jimmy V - We loved his enthusiasm and his noble fight against cancer, but he was a so/so coach

Probably won't be a fan favorite with this pick but I think Joe B Hall might be on this list.  One title and several bad seasons with tons of talent on the roster.  Great guy, average coach.

Maybe not the worst, but maybe the most forgettable.   i completely forgot he even won a title.

Jimmy V has to be in contention.  I can't really speak to McGuire because I wasn't alive then.

I thought about him too, but the guy went to a Final Four 23% of his time as UK's head coach.

While I thought it was time for Tubby to go, UK did get him at his best.  Won 76% of his games here.  That said, he was on a downhill trajectory when he left, as evidenced by his 53.9% win percentage since leaving.

I think if you're looking from the 1990's on, I think your candidates are Kevin Ollie, Gary Williams, Tubby Smith, & Jim Harrick.

And don't forget what UK had to do just to get there.  Or that UConn beat the clear #1 in the nation that year (Florida) in the Final Four.  Florida went 36-3 that season.  Two of the three losses were to UConn.

Exactly! UK beat one seed Witchita State. They beat defending National Champs who had many of their main players back in Louisville. Beat a very good Michigan and Wisconsin teams to get to the finals. Unfortunately ran up against a team that was also on a roll too in UConn. Yet people want to act like the easy way to beat UConn was to just play zone. Even though no team in the tournament, including other top coaches were able to beat them either, and those coaches probably did try to play some zone and still lost. 
 

Which honestly have people not seen that the few times Cal has actually tried to use zone through the years. That his teams literally sucks at playing zone. Yet people wanted that UK team who didn’t play zone all year. Who didn’t play zone the whole tournament on their great run to get to the finals. People wanted them to play zone for the first time all year in the Championship game, and act like they would have done it well enough to beat UConn that year? Some UK fans literally will try to find anything to complain about. Which was the main reason this thread was made. 
 

Defense is not the reason they lost that game either. They only gave up 60 points in that game. If you only give up 60 points, then your defense did its job. The problem was the offense not being able to score, and also only shooting 54% from the free throw line that game. Honestly offense was the reason they also lost to UConn in the final four in 2011. Fans love to say to play zone, but defense has rarely been the issue under Cal. Offense has been one of the bigger issues usually when they have lost.
