More accumulating snow for the weekend?

It appears that some will have another chance at accumulating snow this weekend. For now it appears that it will only affect portions of northern Kentucky. Most of the rest of Kentucky should see all rain. First, lets look at what the GFS is showing. Rain will break out ahead of a low pressure system as it passes north of Kentucky. The rain field should run into some cold air that could turn the rain into freezing rain and then snow for portions of northern Kentucky. The snow will turn back into rain as warm air moves in from the southwest.

The NAM shows the a couple of rounds of rain turning to snow back to rain.

For now, the possible snow accumulations will be on the light side.  Check back for updates.

Friday evening update:

This looks to be a tricky forecast  for the possible wintry precipitations for Saturday evening into Sunday morning. The models are showing very different amounts for possible snow accumulations. The GFS is coming in warmer than the NAM. They both show precipitation ongoing around the 4 pm EST. The GFS is showing more of a rain event with most of the heaviest possible accumulations confined to northern Kentucky northward.

The NAM shows the precipitation as the same as the GFS but it has the cold air mixing in much more than the GFS. Also it shows a possible second round of snow breaking out on the leading edge of the second wave of possible rain.

The NAM is also showing some possible freezing rain accumulations. The freezing rain should stay north of I-64.

This is what the GFS and NAM are showing for possible snow accumulations.

For my first call I'm going with 1-3 inches. There appears to be a possible 4 inches just north of Cincinnati and in the Ashland area. I will post an update in the morning.
