I'll never understand why people care so much about final fours... It's just a semifinal game... You still lose. What makes those semifinals more important than any other semifinals? You lose, you go home... End the season with an L like every team except one.

 

I know, Tubby only has one championship... But nobody has ever been able to explain to me why final fours is the gauge of a coaches talent.

 

If you can explain it, please do. I'd really love to know, and I'm all ears.

You've typed for an hour and still have failed to address my main point...no final fours for Tubby with players he recruited...

 

If we get ONE MORE defensive rebound in the 2005 game against Michigan State we win that game and gain that precious Final Four appearance. Would that one win really make Tubby that much better of a coach? No, of course it wouldn't, just like the fact that we lost in overtime doesn't make him that much worse of a coach. According to the standards demanded by the UK fans on this site there are currently ZERO coaches in the NCAA who meet "acceptable" standards for UK over the past nine seasons. Anything in the NCAA tourney after the first round is a crapshoot at this point. 25 Different teams out of a possible 36 spots over the last nine seasons, George Mason in the Final Four. This is not the same sport, it isn't the same teams in there every year--the idea now is to be in the hunt every year. Even as great a coach as Coach K is 3 Final Fours in 9 seasons is nothing like he accomplished between 86-96. Call it accepting lower standards if you want, what it is, in fact, is realism. Parity arrived in college basketball when KG, Kobe and company started jumping straight to the pros. It used to be commonplace to see programs make 4-5 Final Fours in a 9-10 year run. Now it is exceptional, only one team has done it Michigan State. Those days aren't coming back anytime soon.

Can't answer it? What on Earth makes a final four more important than any other semifinal? It's not that complex a question. Why would making a final four make all the wrongs right? Why doesn't he have to win a championship? Why would you lower your standards to simply a final four trip?

 

And I DON'T gauge a coach's talent. I just watch the games and move on. It's not that big a part of my life anymore. Just a fun discussion piece when I get home from work at 3 AM.

Oh, and my posts shouldn't be taken at all as me defending Tubby... Like I'm sure some will say I am... I'm pretty indifferent about the whole thing, and I think the debate is tired and old. Sadly enough, I almost have to participate in it or I'm not getting my $15 worth of conversation.

Tell that to the top teams and see what their expectations are...much higher than yours. Teams at the top don't make excuses and say it's just too hard to do these days...

Tubby has NO FINAL FOURS his players, hope that's low enough for you...because you can't lower them any more than that...

 

While we're at it, are you embarrassed that we weren't ranked at the end of last season and aren't ranked this season??? Nobody fears our program any more, much less respects it...

Lower expectations??????????? We are talking about KY right? Are you kidding? Why can't we have a top 10 recruiting class every year? Why can't we have at least a top 10 1 year and a top 20 the next. That's not unreasonable.

It doesn't say anything about his recruiting ability, it just says something about Lofton and I think you just answered your own question. Lofton dreamed to play for Kentucky and never got the offer, so as a life long Kentucky fan why would he go to their biggest rival? Still yet, if he wanted to be in state it wasn't Pitino's recruiting ability because he had a guy committed by the name of Telfair, you may remember him. These two reasons are why Lofton is in Tennessee, not anything about Ricky P keeping anyone in state.

Just because he is a Ky kid and wanted to play for UK, doesn't mean he automatically gets the scholly. If that were the case, UK would have nothing but Ky kids on its roster. He's no different, except for the fact that he's turned out to be better than most experts expected. Hindsight is 20/20. It is easy to say "we knew Lofton was going to be a great one" now that he is doing well at UT; and easy to say UK should have taken Chris over Rondo, Craword, or Bradley now that Chris has exceeded expectations. If Tubby would have taken Lofton over one of the other three (at least over Rondo and Crawford), he may not have made it out of the signing period alive.

 

With all the faults of Tubby and that recruiting class, it was actually a really good one; the problem has been other recruiting classes. It sucks Chris could not be along for the ride, but given the circumstance, Tubby did not exactly whiff that season on recruiting.

Right now it isn't even in the top 25, but if Patterson signs it will improve greatly.
