Da champ
I guess the big question is can we or will we afford him? I think he can be a good closer.
westsider
The way Reitsma pitched last season, I don't think affordability will be an issue.

You think he can be a good closer. He couldn't even pitch an inning last year let alone be a closer in the Central. If I were the Reds I would look the other way. Bring someone up from the farm before giving him a contract!
Da champ
He had surgery last year after throwing in 160 games in two years. They say that most pitchers come back stronger after they recuperate from surgery. It's very obvious we are not going to pay big money for average pitchers. Looks like that is the going price. Maybe Reitsma is signable on the cheap side. I don't know. A perfect world would have Coffey step up and take the closer over. Nothing like that seems to work for the Reds though. As for Reitsma.....No
IAmAFan
Reitsma gives up too many long-balls. I thought when they let him go he'd be a solid long term closer, especially after starting strong in ATL. However, with injuries there are too many question marks. Sounds like alot of closers, none of which I hope to have on our roster. With the possible exception of the one we already have.

STRIKE3
I know its a closer thread, but I just can't understand why Krivskey hasn't been able to sign or trade for another quality starter, since his arrival. Relievers have been stockpiled and could be packaged dealt. Its going to take significant money, from a commitment to GABP. I'm with IAFAN, too many HR's and propensity to allow them, from Reitsma. h.s.sportsrbest
Another example of Reds' fans being enamored with a guy but for absolutely no good reason. The Braves are as pitching savvy an organization as there is, and I'm sure they're not cutting him loose because he's too good. If he'll take middle relief / set-up man money, fine, but beyond that, look elsewhere.

goherd96
Does anyone else think that with the ridiculous money being paid out this offseason that Krivsky, et al may be taking a more wait and see attitude? Maybe expecting the salaries to be more realistic next year or even the year after? I know there was a spending spree a few years back and then contracts seemed to come back to reality after a couple of years. Personally, I think the best thing the Reds could do is build from within for long term success and I feel that is what is now being done much more so than when Bowden was running things.
