Weeks...

Two weeks? Irresponsible, IMO.

4-6 weeks? Maybe...

Even if it is 6 weeks then we are relying on herd immunity. The Rona ain't going anywhere any time soon.

Those who choose to go right back to being in large groups, yes, they would be relying on it. That's assuming we don't have a proven therapy in six more weeks.

Obviously I agree but as we all know those "who choose" will also have contact with those that don't necessarily choose and that is what I am getting at on the herd immunity being our MO.

I don't think most restrictions will be lifted until we have some kind of therapy or WAY more testing, at least locally. I could be wrong.

It’s a delicate balance between hoping people develop antibodies to fight off the disease, and re-opening to watch the world burn. The purpose of flattening the curve is to ensure we have consistent medical resources to deal with the cases as they arrive, not stop the virus in its tracks.

While developing immunity is the clear goal, if we move too quickly we haven’t seen anything yet as far as a strain on resources. How many people that could have survived will not because there aren’t resources to take care of them? Thinning the herd is not human.

It’s a matter more complicated than my brain can process because obviously the economy can’t sustain these measures and quality of life is an important detail that can’t be minimized. But we can’t just kill off a generation for the sake of our convenience.

I mean.. I guess we can, but I can’t process it.

I guess I will be the one to point out the obvious. Without widespread testing/vaccine aren’t we really just putting off the inevitable herd immunity? Whenever we open back up, without testing/vaccine what is different about March 13 till the day we reopen? i mean no matter when we start reopening the virus is still going to be out there, it’s not going away. Without a vaccine/testing when we reopen what have we really accomplished? I think people are more knowledgeable of the do’s and don’t’s but the virus is still going to be spread by people not aware they have it.

That depends on what "near future" means.

May 1. After that, wheels of society start of fall off.

Can we really open back up without knowing how many people have actually contracted the disease?

We have roughly tested 3 million people with roughly 600k positives. That's a lot of people left for on the roulette wheel.

What happens if this starts back up and the Rona explodes?

And let's face it...unless you have money/connections, you aren't getting tested until things get really bad for you. Most people in this country right now, couldn't get tested if they wanted to.

That's the thing most people advocating for re-open are ignoring. If we go back to "normal" too soon, the second wave has the potential to be worse than the first.

We are kidding ourselves if we aren't thinking that those in the hot spots up North won't head South as soon as the switch is flipped.

And those 2.4 mil negatives could be positives at a later date... Not like they’re out of the woods just because they were negative this time.

Testing has to SIGNIFICANTLY ramp up.

Yesterday I read a story where people in South Korea recovered and now have a reactivated form of the CV.

How will that work in the herd immunity plan?
