The Tigers are 21-10 on the season with 7 wins in their last 10 games. The Colonels will be visiting Beechwood for the district finals, headed to Fort Mitchell with a 25-5 record on the season and 8 wins in their last 10 games, including a 68-44 win over Beechwood on February 7th.

A few things that are worth considering here, for those who may already have the results of this game written off as being decided before the tip-off...

1) When these teams met 3 weeks ago, Beechwood had Cov Cath on their heels early, leading by 10 at the end of the first quarter, and not allowing the Colonels the lead in the game until there were 3:40 left in the first half. There's a YouTube link embedded in the update thread from that game for those interested in revisiting.

2) Covington Holy Cross really took it to Cov Cath on Tuesday in the district semis, in similar fashion to Beechwood's regular season performance against the Colonels. The Indians led 17-16 at the end of the first quarter, and Cov Cath only managed a 1-point lead at the half.

3) Beechwood retained hosting rights rather than relocating the district tournament to Holmes, where the teams would be able to share in a bigger take from the door (Beechwood has a very small gym with stands only on one side of the gym). There was initially a little bit of bristling about that among the other teams in the district, but considering things now, Beechwood is heading into the district finals with a home court advantage, and they can potentially limit the Cov Cath fans/Crazies from having quite the impact that they might have otherwise.

Surprised by the poll so far XD.

I don't see an issue with Beechwood retaining its rights to host the district if it was part of the rotation. I know it might lead to a smaller gate due to gym size, but I'd always like my team to have a home game in the post-season.

I totally agree. It's their right to do so. Just because team A decides to give up home court advantage in the interest of relocating to a bigger venue and getting more money does not create an expectation for team B to do the same.

No upset this year. Catholics win the 35th and set their sights on another 9th region crown.

The Tigers - behind a much more balanced offensive attack - play four quarters similar to the first quarter in the previous matchup and knock off the Colonels in a nail biter.

My prediction(s):

Beechwood over CovCath by 4 tonight in Fort Mitchell.

CovCath over Beechwood by 25 when they meet at the BB&T Arena in the Regional Tournament.

I don't think he's necessarily off his rocker. I voted for Cov Cath because I think they obviously can and "should" win this one, but given the way their regular season battle AND the Holy Cross game started out for Cov Cath, it's not completely out of question that the Tigers win this at home. Beechwood DID beat Cov Cath last year in the district finals (as well as the regular season) only to lose in their rematch at regions by 14.

Cov Cath has looked a little out of sorts after finally getting Hupmann back from mono. He returned to his spot in the regular starting five, but it's kind of been a hiccup in what the team has grown accustomed to in his absence. Here's hoping their "warming up" to having Noah back is behind them now and my Colonels will be firing on all cylinders tonight.

You really need to see your doctor.

Admire your fanboy act, but...

1. Take a look around the state at the number of upsets that proves anything can happen during the post-season.

2. Review last year's results and see which team won TWO of the three games and stop with this nonsense that it's unfathomable that an upset could happen.

3. Take a close look at last week's game against a decent, but considerably less talented Holy Cross team. As I said earlier this week, it's a good thing for all the Park Hills fanboys that the Colonels weren't playing a much better team.

Did you just call @Randy Parker a CovCath "fanboy"? Hilarious.

The rest of the post though?
