Regional Rankings

 

 

1. Covington Catholic (20-4): The Colonels lost a game to St. Xavier and beat Simon and Highlands. They face Boone County and Beechwood this week.

 

2. Conner (15-5): Conner is playing well. They whipped Holy Cross by 19 and Boone County by 21. They have a test Tuesday in Ft. Mitchell.

 

3. St. Henry (17-3): St. Henry plays Newport and Lloyd this week. I predict they will lose one game. Before anyone asks me the specific analytics of my prediction, I’ll tell you right now, I just have a feeling.

 

4. Beechwood (17-7): Beechwood is 10-2 since Christmas break. They have a huge game at home against Conner on Tuesday's Senior Night. Hughes, Busald, and McGuire will be missed. The Tigers look to avenge the OT Loss last year that, if I remember correctly, stemmed from a buzzer-beater.

 

5. Highlands (19-2): I saw the Birds play in person for the first time this week. They are good; however, it is not a case of them being far and away better than every other 9th Region team not named Cov Cath. I only read Coach Listerman’s comments on our page, I did not hear them. Assuming they are accurate, I give him a thumbs up for speaking his mind. I’m not saying that everything he said was true, there is always subjectivity.

 

6. Newport Central Catholic (11-8): The Breds should have beaten Highlands. They play Scott, Cooper, and Brossart. They have a chance to win all three, especially since they are not traveling to Alexandria or Claryville.

 

7. Holy Cross (10-8): The Indians are a little inconsistent. Holy Cross plays Newport and Holmes this week.

 

8. Cooper (7-11): Since the new year, Cooper is 5-2. I think they will be the #2 seed in the district tournament.

 

9. Ryle (10-11): Ryle has won 3 of 4. The Raiders host Grant County Monday. I’ll take this one in, if the wife lets me. I hope the Raiders don’t get sick.

 

10. Lloyd Memorial (12-8): Lloyd is up and down. They play the Wildcats on Tuesday.

 

11. Holmes (9-12): Holmes beat Campbell County by double digits. They play Cooper and Holy Cross this week.

12. Dixie Heights (5-17): Dixie plays Highlands this week. If they can pull it off, it would be huge for that program. I see them going to the regional tournament.

 

13. Newport (12-9): Newport is on another streak. I do not see them beating St. Henry on Monday.

 

14. Boone County (5-17): The rebels face the Colonels on Tuesday with a district game against Ryle later in the week.

 

15. Ludlow (13-7): Ludlow is on a 6 game winning streak.

 

16. Dayton (6-14): Dayton beat St. Pats before losing the Newport.

 

17. Villa Madonna (5-17): Villa lost to Dixie and then beat Heritage.

 

18. Heritage Academy (5-14): Heritage plays the Devils this week.

 

19. Bellevue (2-16): Bellevue plays Latin, Dayton, and New Cath this week

 

20. Covington Latin (0-11): Latin keeps losing. They do intend to play in the district tournament though.

Trust me, I'm not a fan of either one. I'm not ranking them on their records, NCC is about at full staff, I just believe at this point of the season they are the 2 and 3 best teams in the region.

If NCC shoots a tad bit better from the line they beat Highlands and that was with still one starter out. In the St. Hank and Beechwood games how many starters were they short. I don't believe Conner would beat Highlands again, I just think Highlands and NCC are the second and third best teams at the time.

Joel Iles did not play against St. St. Henry in the All "A" and it was the first game back for Ross Pangallo that night.
