Eli Manning

How about this--

*.500 career winning percentage over 234 games

*Only made the playoffs in 6 of 16 years

*Threw more INT's than any other QB in his era

*Touchdown rate of 4.5% which ranks 19 in his era behind Andy Dalton and Jay Cutler to name a couple.

*Tied for 33rd with Ryan Fitzpatrick, in his era for completion rate.

*Led the league in Int's 3 times.

Its a team sport. You cant fault Eli for poor drafts, bad offensive lines and bad defense. Brett Favre threw a lot of interceptions. In fact I think he is #1 all time.

Eli has more super bowl wins, heck, more super bowl MVPs than Dalton does playoff wins.

In his career, Eli has more super bowl MVPs than the rest of the teams in his division have super bowl wins.

Derek Jeter, Reggie Jackson and Mike Schmidt are all top 20 for K's, I guess they didn't belong in HoF either.

Hall of Fame is based on achievement, not failures or lack of failures.

If a mediocre QB like Aikman is in, then Eli should be in.

Put Eli on Aikman's Cowboys and he would have done as well if not better. Put him on the Patriots and he may have 5 rings. Eli except for a few years was in a horrible situation in NY.

Not a real good comparison. Schmidt is arguably the best 3rd baseman ever both offensively and defensively. Jeter is arguably the best all around shortstop. Reggie maybe the best clutch player ever. What is Eli considered the best at for his position?

I did mention Aikman before...he's the Bradshaw of the 90's....the QB on the best team of his decade. And I did say, if Aikman, Kelly, and Elway are all in, then Eli probably gets in too.

My point was that you seemed to be overlooking the accomplishments posted by HB20 and only focusing on the shortcomings. Even the best players, Schmidt, Jeter, Jackson and others had struggles and big holes in their stat sheets.

In 2005 Eli was 5th in yards and tied for 4th in TDs.

In 2006 Eli was tied for 4th in TDs.

2007 he was a super bowl champ and MVP.

In 2008 the Giants won their division and had the #1 seed. Would have likely done better in the playoffs had Plax not shot himself.

In 2009 he was 10th in yards and 8th in TDs.

2010 the Giants went 10-6 but missed the playoffs. Eli was 5th in yards and 4th in TDs.

In 2011 Eli saved a bad team around him, went 9-7 and dominated the playoffs enroute to super bowl win and MVP #2. He was 4th in yards and 7th in TDs.

In 2012 8th in TDs

2013 was a bad year.

2014 6th in yards, 9th in TDs. Had 30 TDs to 14 INTs.

2015 he was 2nd in TDs and 6th in yards.

2016 he was 7th in TDs and the Giants made the playoffs.

2017 wasnt a great year. The Giants were bad and fired McAdoo.

2018 was an okay year. 9th in yards. Only 21 TDs but only 10 INTs

2019 he was benched in favor of the rookie.

There were a couple bad years in there. But most years he was top 10 in yards or TDs if not both and many years he was top 5 or top 3.

If you all dont think a 2x super bowl MVP (only 5 of those in NFL history) who is top 10 all time in multiple categories, who has some of the most memorable moments in NFL history doesnt belong in the HOF I am not sure what to tell you.

You're right. And it's because I think the holes in Eli's stat sheet, outweigh the positives when considering him for the HOF. Doesn't me I don't think he wasn't a great player. I just don't think he was HOF great.

Let’s not compare Eli or anyone in this era to previous eras. Stats are so watered down now compared to guys like Elway when they were doing it. Eli, Rivers, etc. are not in Elway’s stratosphere. It is a simple eye test and you are kidding yourself if you think they are comparable players. You used to be able to maul receivers and QBs. This is like the people that claim LeBron is a superior shooter to Michael Jordan because he has hit so many more three pointers.

No one is comparing them number for number. But you can compare how they stacked up number wise with others in their era, how many MVPs they won, how many times they lead the league etc.

Elway wasnt exactly crushing the league and leading every statistical category. Neither was Aikman.

I love it when people say ,"he isnt a HOFer but he will get in"

Um....if he gets in he is a HOFer. And he will get in. Maybe not first ballot, but he will get in.

He is not elite, nor was he one of the best to do it in his era.

His dad and brother have more to do with getting in than his career statistics do. That's why people say he shouldn't get in but will.

Eli is a HOFer and has the career to support it. Idk why so many are offended by that :lol2:

Can't speak for others but it would take a heckuva lot more than him getting in the HOF, which he will, to offend me.

How about this--

...The last three horrible years really shade that stat. Prior to the last three years his winning percentage was .570

*Only made the playoffs in 6 of 16 years

Made the playoffs 6 of 16 years. That's a positive in a tough division.

*Threw more INT's than any other QB in his era

...Favre 336, Tarkenton 266, Unitas 253, Marino 252, P. Manning 251 all threw more INT's. Brees has only thrown 7 fewer INT's.

*Touchdown rate of 4.5% which ranks 19 in his era behind Andy Dalton and Jay Cutler to name a couple.

*Tied for 33rd with Ryan Fitzpatrick, in his era for completion rate.

*Led the league in Int's 3 times.

See above notes.

The lower level stats are just clutching at straws to find something negative.

People can go back and forth on minutiae stats all they want but truly all that matters is this:

Two Super Bowl wins and two Super Bowl MVP's.

To me, a lot of it comes down to, how many players at your position were better than you during your era?

If we can name more than five, which I believe we can, then you shouldn't get in. Period.

This is exactly why I'm in the camp that I'm in. In 16 years, Manning was never mentioned as one of the top 2-3 QB's in the league. There were always 3 or 4 guys (at least that were better), and the stats back that up. It gets difficult to compare stats when going across era's because the game has changed so much in the last 20 years. Winning a SB MVP is a nice accomplishment. Winning two is really nice. But that doesn't make or define a career. Nick Foles, Malcolm Smith, Joe Flacco, Santonio Holmes, Dexter Jackson, and Deion Branch (to name a few) all won Super Bowl MVP's. Would any of them be considered for the HOF if they had won a second? And to be fair, Eli has had a much better career than all those guys. But it shows that the award isn't necessarily the defining factor of whether you're a great player or not.

He is not elite, nor was he one of the best to do it in his era.

What does his dad have to do with anything?

Eli played better than Peyton in both of his super bowls.

Average QBs dont win two super bowls and MVPs with average defenses. Eli is the only QB in history of the NFL to win two superbowls with defenses ranked lower than 15th.

Everyone has their opinions. There are a lot of players in the HOF that dont fit your criteria.
