PurplePride92 Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Congrats to all the kids who made this team. I know how hard that people work to put together a team like this one and I know there will be plenty of people happy, disappointed and disgruntled about it. Congrats to all who made the team and thank you to the individuals involved with putting this team together. That being said, Reese Smith not being a WR on this team makes this list flawed and I blame myself for not properly nominating Reese Smith for WR. I sincerely apologize to Reese and his family for my complacency. I should have submitted his nomination as a WR. I honestly assumed it was a no brainer. That is on me. Again, congrats to those who made it.
WestDanville Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 I didn’t nominate Reese either. As a representative of Central Kentucky this season I should’ve have sent one in. Glad he made the list in some capacity though. All in all I feel that this list is the best representation of the top football players in the state of Kentucky. Shoutout to BGP for getting it right!

PurplePride92 Posted January 14, 2020 Author Posted January 14, 2020 Do you think Reese was more impactful on the offensive side of the ball, or on the defensive side of the ball (where he landed on this ALL BGP Team)? Offensively and it ain’t close IMO.
Voice of Reason Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Congratulations to all who made this team! As to Reese Smith, it is actually a testimony to him that he made the team as a DB. I would guess few people statewide realize he is that good of a football player that he makes an all state team at a position other than WR.
Tigerpride94 Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Congrats to all of the young men on the team and especially St.X Tiger LB Hale Bohler.
ATLCat Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Congratulations to all who made this team! As to Reese Smith, it is actually a testimony to him that he made the team as a DB. I would guess few people statewide realize he is that good of a football player that he makes an all state team at a position other than WR. The format of the All BGP team and the intense research and review makes it very unique. For example, in order to make the team as an ATH requires that the player must legitimately play and contribute in more than one position (i.e., a dual threat QB who only plays Offense is not an ATH but a QB only... a WR who also runs jet sweeps is not an ATH but a WR only). Reese Smith and Michael Mayer are the only two kids who legitimately would have made this team at any of the three options of Offense, Defense, or ATH. That is a huge compliment to those two players. At the same time, Miles Thomas and Izayah Cummings are both guys that deserved to make the team that would not have been able to without one of those two guys being selected on Defense. Reese Smith was most likely the best Safety in all of Kentucky. Mayer is perhaps the best TE in America, but you can argue Smith was the more impactful star on defense of the two. This is not a slight on Smith as a WR, but instead a praise on him as a player overall.
Rebelstat Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Congratulations to all that made the team. Just think if you had a team with all of these great players on it. WOW

Just saying that Reese was far more impactful on offense, was clearly one of the best WRs in the state(best IMO) and when you take into account his numbers this year at WR as well as the fact that once all career stats are punched in, computed and posted he will arguably be one of the top 5 KY HS WRs of All Time.
RockPride Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 I will say this. There is a glaring mistake on the offense. One that is so egregious, it concerns me that not enough due diligence was done to evaluate all of the players.
00Rocket28 Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 I was surprised McCracken County’s WR Franklin Hayes and his 1556 yards and 26 TD’s was left off... Not much presence west of E-town.

Beyond that no more on this topic on the forum.

Most know how good Reese is at WR, that's kinda what he's known for and what people think when his name is mentioned, but not many know just how good he is on the defensive side of the ball. I'm glad you guys did it this way. Not only does it allow for another great athlete to make this team at WR but it also shines light on Reese Smith's talents on defense. It is very obvious, to me, that you guys took your time in selecting this team and put alot of thought into choosing these players. Going over different scenarios, doing the research, taking in considerations at every position, and in the end releasing a very nice looking team. Great job! Edited February 28, 2020 by EKY_Football

I know how good he is on both sides of the ball. I still say he was more impactful as a WR and IMO the best WR in the state.
