9th Region update

Conner hasn’t beaten ryle by more than 10 points since 2008. Yes I had to even look that one up. They beat Ryle by 1 point in OT when Maddie may have played half the game on a bad ankle sprain.

What are the pairings in the tournament for this district?

  • I applaud all of those willing to take on the task of coaching, especially at the high school girls level. You can have all of the talent you want but if a coach and her staff cannot get them to play

Love this post. What makes a great coach great? Quite frankly it’s optics.   Here is a great question.... Aaron Stamm has Conner ranked #1 in the state last year. Will he ever get Ludlow there? No

Hasbeencoach, you have me cracking up. All season long

“I can’t wait to see what NDA does against Conner.” Conner loses to NDA by 16 points.

“I can’t wait to see what NDA does against Dixie.” Dixie loses to NDA.

Keep wishing, but HC isn’t beating NDA!

Dude has an axe to grind with either Kes or NDA, or both. He drilled them earlier this year, and followed that with "I haven't seen them play yet." It is what it is.

You guys nailed it. Axe to grind with a coach I love personally and high school kids. Saying I don’t think they can win it this year with the brand they are playing is really grinding that axe in.

I do think Region 9 has a lot of parity but to me after watching them all a few times I think it’s a 2 team race.

Ryle must be THE favorite. Yes they have 10 plus losses, Yes Conner beat Them, Yes Maddie played, Yes she played 90% of the game including every second of OT! Neither of these teams are the same right now. Ryle playing much better and Conner seems to be struggling.

NDA Is the second team- to me this is the team nobody should want to play! They play great defense and find a way to make everyone play their style. This gives them an opportunity to win every time on floor!

I keep hearing how down region 9 is but i would not be surprised if Region 9 winner makes a lot of noise in STATE!

Ryle

NDA

Highlands

Conner

Boone

Dixie

Thanks Coach34. With Boone playing well is it possible for Boone to make an appearance in the region by knocking off Conner. Teams seem to be going in opposite directions right now.

Last time Boone played Conner they lost by 17 which was only a few weeks ago. I think Boone took advantage of Dixie not having Lawson. Can they beat Conner? Yes. I think during the tournament anybody can be beat. Boone still has holy cross and Notre Dame on their schedule. Those games will solidify Boone’s chances of being a contender to get to the 9th region tourney.

What's great about the top teams in this region is the great coaching. Scherr and Haitz have been quite a duo. It is easy to trust Ryle when they have possibly the best coach in the state and the best player in the state. Should be a fun 9th region tournament.

Best coach in the state. See the proves everyone has an opinion.

I've never been at a Ryle practice or sat in the huddle or even really talked basketball with the Ryle coach. With that said I'm having a hard time with the best coach in the state comment. Just this years team she has a McDonald's All-American two additional starters with D1 offers and two 8th graders that more than likely will play pretty high level college ball. You add Dofitt in on that group she's a 1000 point scorer it might be harder to lose than it is to win. Again no idea if she is a good coach or not hard to tell with all that talent.

Seen her coach, seems fine when I’ve seen her. It does seem to me her first year when she had all senior tall girls (Mallory Schwartz and Carly Lange group) heading off to play college ball they should have won the region. As you said it’s hard to say cause her talent level has been so high. Last years Ryle team I think almost any coach could have won state. Schwartz should have won Miss Basketball. Imagine having two miss basketballs on your team plus the surrounding cast. Hard to mess that up. Once they move past the Scherr era we will see how they do. They will have enough talent to win but the coaching will make a bigger difference.

Talent is by far the most important factor in winning. Much more important than coaching.

Coaching is what we are talking about. It was suggested shes the best coach in the state.

Yes, and you used the talent on her team to question her coaching ability. My point is no coach wins without talent.
