I am just posting the facts. If anything I posted about the game isn't true, please point out where I was wrong.

This game reminded of the scrimmage against Cooper. Beechwood's defense shut them down except they made some big plays to a wide out against our corners. Beechwood's offense is better now than it was against Cooper.

 

Yet the end result ended up the same. Also without one of NCCs best players even playing. Which I even admit I didn't think they would still win without him.

Turnovers haunt, just like walks in baseball. Beechwood was moving ball at will in first half, and had two drives come away with zero points because of turnovers, one on the 2 yd line. Can’t happen against a good team like NewCath. Give a team like that a chance and they will make it hurt. Kudos to NewCath for that game winning drive. Wow. Very impressive and can’t take anything away from them. On to the playoffs, good luck to both.

I said this to a bunch of folks last night but the unsung hero for NCC might have been Justin Schneider on the botched punt attempt by New Cath late in the game. It was 4th and 3 on NCC's own 17 yard line. Kremer couldn't corral the snap and then rolled out and threw a prayer that was caught by a diving Schneider for a potential first down. They threw a flag for illegal man (a bunch of them) down field which was the correct call. However, that made Beechwood accept the penalty which allowed NC to punt again to the 44 yard line with no return. NCC held them on that possession and force a Beechwood punt. If that pass isn't caught, Beechwood declines the penalty and gets the ball 1st and 10 at NCC's 17 yard line. It's a play that won't show up in any stat sheet but could have saved the game for NCC.

9/10 games Beechwood wins that game. Additionally, from what I saw, NewCath has a big flaw Heading into playoffs and it’s on tape for all to see. Their O-line. Get to QB and game over. If Beechwood had any push up front this game isn’t close IMO. Great game and taking away nothing From NCC, but QB had forever to make throws except when blitzes came from BW. I don’t see anyone crying here, just stating facts. Good luck to both teams in playoffs, will be fun to follow both NKY teams.

The comment and question I posed early in the predictions thread was:

 

This looks like a defensive slugfest. Both team's defenses are playing well. Has Beechwood's offense improved enough to score 3 touchdowns against a very good defense?

 

The answer to that is no. After the wins over Lloyd and Newport I thought the Beechwood offense perhaps had gotten over the hump. It looks like there is still work to do. Yes, the Tigers had bad turnovers and missed out on points when the late drive stalled and they missed the field goal. The offense isn't good enough yet to overcome those mistakes and take the next drive and put up points.

 

Beechwood and New Cath play this game at this time every year for the very reason we saw on Friday night. When you play a top notch opponent, flaws are revealed. I expect both teams to make adjustments from what they learned Friday night. I wonder what those changes/adjustments will be and how both these teams look different from Friday night as they move through the playoffs.

Did this game have a big impact on RPI for either team or not? With the new system I was just wondering if a game like this at the end of season makes a big difference.

Not a major impact.

 

For Beechwood, if the higher RPI seeds win their districts they will now host Shelby Valley in round 3 instead of Walton-Verona. If they win that one, they will be on the road in round 4, and they would have been on the road in round 4 if they won the game. So an opponent change in round 3 is the only impact. Beechwood needs some big upsets to play at home in round 4 and winning the New Cath game would not have changed that.

 

For New Cath, I don't think the win changed anything for them. There are two teams in the west side with higher RPI's than them so they were traveling in round 3 win or lose this game. If the higher seeds win through round 3, New Cath will be on the road for the semifinals also. New Cath should be rooting for a Paintsville or Pikeville loss before the semifinals. If one of those two lose before the semifinals and New Cath is still playing, then New Cath will get a home game in the final four.

When people see the film from Friday they will see Beechwood had no push upfront. So, if you can do that and BW d-line should moving forward from what I’m hearing, you decimate them.

It seems to me if Beechwood had no push upfront, that would mean NCC line was better than Beechwoods D line. Which that wouldn't change then all of a sudden if they played again. Also Beechwood secondary may have shut down NCC, but once again one of NCC best players didn't play, and that does make a difference in Beechwood secondary if he plays.

 

Now I will agree with you on turnovers will haunt though.

Beechwood finishes at .500. When was the last year they didn't finish above .500?

Waiting for these Beechwood apologists to explain how they could of beat Cov Cath 9/10 times if everything would of went according to Hoyle..New Cath won on that night. They deserved it. Beechwood didn’t. Game over.

Everything regarding the game itself has been said.

 

What stood out to me, however, was the lack of enthusiasm and cheering by Beechwood fans. I have never been so disappointed in Beechwood's crowd. The attendance was decent/good, but it reminded me more of a dull golf tournament.

 

The crowd made nearly ZERO noise (apart from a few dads who cheered loudly) before every big defensive situation in this game. Even when Beechwood scored or made a big play, nearly no reaction from the fans. The only time a majority of Beechwood fans were on their feet was during the last 2 minutes of the game when NCC got the ball back. And even then it was underwhelming.

 

As a former 13 year student, football alum, and lover of everything Beechwood, this is the only time I have ever felt true REAL disappointment with anything Beechwood. Honestly, I was disgusted by it. I was sitting third row center on the bleachers and personally had to try to get people to cheer louder and stand up during big plays.

 

Beechwood fans need to show some excitement and cheer on their players. Those who have played in the big games know that the crowd has an enormous effect on the morale of both teams. It can change the outcome of games. Kudos to NCC fans for showing up and voicing their support. Beechwood fans showed up, but were dormant.
