November 27, 200619 yr What are everyones opinions on this years coach of the year in college football? My choices would be (in no cetain order): Jim Tressel (OSU) - He lost 9 players to the NFL off of his defense from last year and most were saying that they didn't have a chance this season bc of the defense. All he has done is go unbeaten, have one of the top ranked defenses in the country, win the big 10, ranked #1 in the nation and will be playing for another national title. Schiano (Rutgers) - The job that he has done in rebuilding that program is amazing. Grobe (WFU) - Same reasons as for Schiano. P. Carroll (USC) - Man I hate to include him but with all he lost from last years team he has to be considered.
November 27, 200619 yr Rutgers coach is most deserving considering where that program came from to at one time consideration of playing in the national championship game. OSU and USC should be considered each and every year, but RUTGERS.
November 27, 200619 yr I think Rutger's coach Shiano has done an amazing job. The fact that Rutgers can win the Big East and go to a BCS bowl is absolutely an amazing accomplishment.
November 27, 200619 yr Author I think Rutger's coach Shiano has done an amazing job. The fact that Rutgers can win the Big East and go to a BCS bowl is absolutely an amazing accomplishment. The same can be said for Gobe at Wake Forest - the thought of " Wake" playing for a ACC title in football and quite posssibly going to the Orange Bowl is equally amazing imo. Both Schiano and Gobe have done unbelievable jobs. I honestly think that it will be Tressel or Carroll though, the award just seems to go to coaches that are on top.
November 27, 200619 yr I like the ones mentioned (probably Grobe and Schiano leading the way)... but I would also like to add in Bob Stoops. Lost top RB, QB, and OL and is good shape for a BCS bid. Kind of interesting to think... without the blown call at Oregon, OU would be a top 5 BCS school.
November 27, 200619 yr Schiano. How are you going to argue with Rutgers coming out of nowhere? If they beat WVU, that's a BCS school no one saw coming. Of course, you might make the same argument for Jim Grobe from Wake Forest if they make it.

November 27, 200619 yr 1 - Schiano 2 - Carroll 3 - Nutt *Though the job Petrino and Co. did sans Bush...and missing Brohm for 2.5 games, is pretty darned impressive as well.

November 27, 200619 yr Jim Tressel. He lost most of his defense to the NFL and no one gave him a chance to win anything. A coach that lead his team to a conference championship with an undefeated season and a shot at the National Championship in my opinion is very deserving of COY.
