Question for @ColtPride, when I was in high school in the early 2000s DeSales seemed competitive, but not quite a state championship contender yet. (It is possible they were I just can't recall) What has changed over the last decade or so to get them to become one of the top teams in their classification each year?

I would guess reclassification had a lot to do with it. But that would just be a broad assumption.

Defense wins championships.. I just have yet to see an impressive old school X team in a while. I am going with Desales.

I looked at roster size on khsaa and stripped out freshman. St.X has 148 and DeSales 48. All the more impressive if DeSales gets the win. Your 11 only has to be better than their 11.

I think X has the advantage this year for a number of reasons. Their QB is back from injury & should be more prepared this year. The players are more used to the new coach's system, and they'll be playing at home & looking to avenge last year's loss.

St. X also has the advantage of numbers. DeSales is forced to play several key players on both sides of the ball while X can rest their star athletes by only playing them one way. They'll also have greater depth on the O and D lines. All that being said, they will have to take the Colts seriously or they could be in trouble again. DeSales has some really good athletes & they are used to playing bigger teams who don't have to play both ways. The key for DeSales will be the new QB. I don't know if they have announced a starter at QB (probably Demarcus Avery), but whichever is chosen he will face a tough test in his first appearance at QB. Hopefully it will be a good game. Happy Football Friday everyone! :dancingpa Good luck to both teams and we can only hope for a game as good as last years to start the season.

 

St. X must start quick and finish drives off with touchdowns or the momentum will shift to the Colts, but I believe St. X's running game is much improved from last years and will be the reason St. X controls the game and ultimately will control the score board.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts on the game, however, I think this one belongs to the Tigers. DeSales' win last year was well earned and deserved. Was a good win for the program, but I think they caught X off guard on a night which was historic for DeSales because of the new stadium.

DeSales has built a great program, but sometimes paybacks are hell. The Tigers have a year under Coach Wallace and I believe everyone is on board.

I think DeSales will keep it somewhat close in the first half with X going into halftime with probably a 14-7 lead, then take over in the second half taking it by 28-10.

He’s running 2nd team LB. I assume he is eligible since on roster and dressing tonight.
