2019 Preseason Coaches Poll

Featured Replies

When that first poll is released annually I get the heebie-jeebies. Football is officially around the corner!

Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio State, LSU, Michigan, Florida, Notre Dame, and Texas round out the top 10.

UK is in the "receiving votes" paragraph at #31.

No shock at all atop the early-season standings.

UK isn’t even close to the #31 team in the nation.

You've got them that much closer to the top huh?

I wish, this team I have serious questions about.

I figured as much. Hoping they surprise some folks.

I agree. They lost a TON, if they were to somehow get to 8-4 it would be stealing.

Florida seems way over-valued to me.

Cincinnati is an interesting team, and one that I thought might sneak into the bottom of this poll. They stacked up a ton of wins last year, return a decent chunk of the roster, but have a BRUTAL schedule this year. They will be interesting to watch.

Also find it interesting (odd, maybe) that Nebraska is the 9th betting favorite to make the playoffs, but aren't in the Top 25. Vegas know more than the coaches, or is Vegas just trying to steal money from people caught up in the resurgence of a once dominant program?

Obviously it is all conjecture and statistical probabilities at this point, but as a conversation starter, ESPN's FPI has UK going 5-7 this year. Now, I think they could very well win the home games against Missouri and UT, so perhaps a better "prediction" is flipping those two and getting to 7-5.

I’ve been working on a pretty decent preview article that details expectations and storylines for every power 5 team as well as notable non power 5 schools. Also going to give my top 25 (after the top 7 its drastically different than the coaches poll). Also predicting bowl matchups for NY6 and the playoff. Since this thread has evolved into, UK is much better than 31, I’ll go ahead and give my prediction that UK is much, much closer to 2016 and 2017 than they are 2018. Every single team in the SEC East is adding key pieces or bringing back key players except UK. UK success depends solely on Terry Wilson. That’s a scary bet to make.

People have been talking about it all off-season and this really hammers it home: might be the toughest schedule Louisville has ever played.

Three opponents ranked in the preseason top 25 (Clemson, Notre Dame, Syracuse); six more receiving votes; EKU, WKU and Wake Forest are the only three in neither of those groups.

Talk about bad timing...

OSU at 5 with a rookie coach and QB is optimistic.

UK still has the advantage of the usual weak OOC schedule, as well as about as easy an in-conference SEC schedule as can be had. I’m saying 6-6 at worst, maybe 7-5. Like you, I can’t see 8 wins.

Where do you honestly see a struggle on the schedule? They aren't going to lose at home and they own The Big House lately, no power 5 OOC this year. Could they pull another choke job like the last few years sure, but it's hard to see one looking at the schedule. Toughest games are likely the last two and rookie coach and rookie QB won't be rookies by then. I honestly don't see them missing the playoffs unless they pull another "Purdue" this year. I think new coach will have enough fire to keep the yearly Urban Flop from happening this year.

Lost entire secondary and a decent LB/DE. That said, if they can patch up the defense I think they will be right where you say.

At Nebraska in Week #5 will not be a pushover this year for the Buckeyes. In my opinion. That said, I think Fields will be in a groove by then and OSU will still win, but it could be a challenge.

The biggest struggle for the Buckeyes is the depth behind Fields is ATROCIOUS. If he misses any time they could be in for an uphill battle.
