what classification will Russell be next year? Who is in their district next year?

But don't they still each attend the same schools they attended last year, do everything separate like last year, except for athletics? Or have they combined their academic's teams as well? Just Curious. This is something that I heard new last night. I had thought that they consolidated so late in the summer and with this being the last year for 4 classes , the KHSAA allowed them to stay at 2A. Or am I off-base or mis-informed.

 

They have two campuses. Kids attend both campuses depending on what classes they are taking. Some classes are offered at one campus and some classes are at the other. It has not been a perfect world but it has functionaed fairly well. I think they thought it would be easier to do it this way until the new schoolwas built, but in hind site it wasn't. Next year the Lexington Rd campus (was H'burg High) will be a freshman acadamy. All freshman will attend there. MCHS will be all Sophmores, Juniors, and Seniors. I think they realize now that they should have done it this way from the get go.

Dude, you need to quit worrying about what Mercer needs to do to win, and maybe start thinking about what Russell will have to do. But keep posting....we have a big bulletin board.

You need to get out of the mountains more. There are plenty of teams where the coaching and talent have meshed together. You just need to get out and see them. It's not as rare as you make it. If you need a history lesson check out what Sam Harp has done, Chuck Smith, or a number of others who've won far more titles and done more in the post season.

 

Startin' already, it didn't take long. I didn't read anything in his post saying the wasn't good coaching elsewhere. Did I miss something?

Observations from someone who has seen both teams play. He was at the Russell-Belfry game last night.

 

1. Klark is a good running back, but he is not elusive or fast.

 

2. Russell blitzes a lot.

 

3. Russell scored on busted play.

 

4. Russell will not score until the 4th quarter vs. Mercer when the 2nd team defense takes the field.

 

My responses to his observations:

 

1. That's not good for Russell because Mercer has proven on more than 1 occasion that they can shut down a good player. You need to be exceptionally great to succeed against this Mercer County defense, not good.

 

2. Better not blitz too much, once Corey, Brandon, Donald or Nathan get past the initial push(which they will) how many defenders will be left for them to escape from? Too much blitzing is dangerous against this type of team. I'm warning you.

 

3. No such luck will happen versus Mercer. A busted play against this defense will be a loss of yards, not a touchdown.

 

4. This game, IMHO, will be no different than any of the other games that Mercer has played. You add in the personal factor that Russell is the last team that Mercer lost to and the fact that they can not only beat Russell but destroy Russell, I predict we will see the best effort from Mercer County that we have seen all year.

 

I see where people post that Russell is well coached and that they have 20+ seniors. Mercer is well coached as well. The team is disciplined and have remained focused throughout the year when many wondered how they could. They have almost completed their goal of being state champions and I don't see Russell stopping them.

 

And to the 5A playing in 2A comments.... When the school merged in May/June, what exactly where they supposed to do? How could they just jump up to 3A? What district would they be in? What region would they be in? What schedule would they play? It was too late for any of that so the best thing was to keep it as it was and move up the following year. There was no way around it. It is impossible to move up a month before conditioning starts and get a full 3A schedule completed in time for the season when everyone else's schedule is done. Is this wrong? Maybe, but it is what it is. And yeah, that may be the reason why Russell will get manhandled next week, but there is nothing anyone can do about it. Nobody seems to mind when these games are scheduled during the regular season. These are the games we want to see. The Lex. Cath's vs. Danville, Highlands vs. Danville, etc. We want to see the small school play the big school and see what the outcome is. Now we can see one where the state title is on the line. Unfortunately this will play out like Trinity vs. Raceland, IMHO.

Good luck to the Titans. I work and play in your backyard so I would love to see you guys get a title before you come play with the big boys next year. I hope I can talk coach Smith into trying to schedule Bowling Green. That's what I really want to see. Good luck though, can't wait to see that stable of running backs on the carpet.

You say " Who were they going to schedule, what district, what this or that..... Well, to be fair you would hold the merge until those questions were answered but instead you hear stuff like you just said "What was Mercer supposed to do". Gimme a break... I really wasn't going to bring any of this up, I was just going to say good luck to both teams and it'll be settled on the field but after reading this I just couldn't resist. Just call it for what it is and I'd be just fine with it, quick trying to justify it with a bunch of hogwash.

They will be 3A next year. There district will be compiled of East Carter, West Carter, Lewis County, and Mason.

 

Non-District games, Greenup Co, Boyd Co, Simon Kenton, Raceland, Lawrence Co., and Ashland.

MERCER WILL BE LOOKING FOR REVENGE THIS YEAR. THEY SHOULD HAAVE WON LAST YEAR IF EVERYONE WAS HEALTHY.

I really don't know the number, what I have heard bantered around is about 1/3. I think if they had it to do over again they would have moved the freshmen to the Lexington Rd campus this year and had the rest at the Moberly Rd campus. Hindsight is 20-20 they are correcting it for next year.
