I wish I would have watched more of Ryle's games or looked at some tape. In that 5-2 scheme if they are playing zone out of it they have to drop 1 of their DE (understandbale since they play in a 2 pt stance head up to outside eye it looks). If they play zone then in most cases it is cover 2 with no way to drop and cover the middle. The scheme does seem to need 2 DE ends that can beat the snot out of the TE.

 

I honestly have not seen too many teams run a 5-2 and with the DE looking like LBers it tends to look some what like a 3-4. I am wondering what happens when the TE is off the LOS so that DE can not just jam him up as easy.

Both of Ryle's DE's, Huth and Lasita could play LB as well so coverage on the TE shouldn't be that big of a problem.

They throw the ball very little because (once again) they have no need to pass when they're gaining 6 adn 7 yards EVERY run. IF T can stop the run then we'll find out just how good Ryle's offense really is.

I'm going to have to agree with NBLSB (welcome aboard!). Ryle doesn't have a come from behind offense at all. For those of you T fans that haven't seen Ryle play... their offense is very similar to what Boone County is known for.

Only had two possible chances to come from behind, one was opening game against a very good Cincy team which they beat in the first half, just ran out of gas in the heat in the second half, did not even have their starting QB. Not enough history for anyone to judge.

So I think Ryle's true potential and capability is really unkown to opponents. Will make for a fun championship game!

Maybe T does win big, maybe a close win for T, and maybe an upset by Ryle. Thats why they play and thats why fans go watch!

My Trinity breakdown (I have not seen Ryle play yet)

 

Strength’s:

 

Offense: Petrino has been playing great this year especially the last 2 games. Accurate and can throw the long ball, and can run very effectively. Has some D-1AA offers. The O-line has been good this year on protecting the QB. They create openings enough for the running back. T has 3 or 4 all district linemen in Hall, Sploker, Roby an All–State linemen last year. Not that many people are going to run Tim the running back down if he breaks in the open field. Very Very quick, has great vision, and creates cut back lines, very smart ballplayer (he's a sophomore). Wide out's very good route runners and I think all are equally good at catching the ball. All are great run blockers.

 

Defense: Are balanced in the running game and passing game. When they need to make a big play they step up and make it. Get good enough pressure to the QB to sack him quickly or to make him throw a bad ball. T has been playing consistent D all year. Little petrino I think will be better than his older brother when it is all done, can hit hard for being a little guy,and very good at open field tackles, #9 I believe Aijay can run fast and tackle very well.

 

Special Teams: Very solid kicker/punter he does all three. Deep high kickoffs and a very very good punter. All-State last year, committed to uk

 

Weaknesses: Very hard to find them but I will try, these weaknesses do not happen a lot.

 

Offense: Oline is good but I feel they could get beat every once and a while from the out side. Running back is outstanding and very strong for his size but for his size, can get stopped at the line of scrimmage.

 

Defense: Like I said the strength is attacking the QB and making the sack, and pressuring him to make a bad decision, but it seems to me if they do not get him the first time they do not get him at all, and then the QB runs around and makes a play down field. I think a team can get some passing yards on the secondary not consistently but can have a big play and gain a lot of yards every once in a while.

 

Special teams: If you asked me this last week I would say there are none. However HC made T look silly on covering the kicks. T kicker will put 9 of 10 in the end zone but when he does not, Trinity gave up the sideline time and again last game

Two of their TDs came late 4th qtr, last one on a fake punt up 21 - 7 with 2 minutes to go. Push the bus back?, nice comment. Did Trinity lose at all this year? Did they push their bus back too?

I still question if a one-dimensional team can win this late in the season. It seems like many on this board want to compare Ryle to the Boone county teams of the past. They couldn't throw their QB was out. They have thrown little, but very effectively. 13 TD's by their starting QB and he hasn't even played in all the games.

I disagree. I think the QB (who started the playoff game last year for his 1st career start) is very good. They aren't deep at the WR position, but Gray and Murray out of the backfield are both good recievers, they have a good TE and 25 is a pretty good WR. That's 4 options who are very effective recievers.

I agree that Ryle does pass the ball effectively. Benke throws a very nice ball and is probably completing 60-65% of his passes in the playoffs. He was not sharp the first few games back from injury as he knocked off the rust. I assume you meant the '94 Boone team did not pass period. This Ryle team is very good and have improved dramatically over the year. It will be a great game. I'd like to hear from Ru who has seen T and Ryle up close and personal in the past two weeks. He could give us a very educated comparison since most of us not have seen both teams play recently. I cannot make any comments on T other than like I have said, they are always good.
