If I'm not mistaken, Ryle doesn't zone often. I believe they play man coverage and double the threat (obviously depending on who they're playing it could be different)

Ryle hasn't gotten behind to any teams this year. Only exception would be Glen Este (which they didnt have their starting qb that game so throw that out) and Boone Co which was within a TD so they didnt need to pass.

 

Ryle has won their games running the ball because they're good enough that they don't need to pass. If they need it on Thursday we'll find out just how good it really is, but as luvthemraiders (?) said earlier Benke has thrown 15 TD's to 2 int's, so he must not be too shabby when he is passing the ball.

Not sure but the games I've seen thats what they've done. You would have to ask someone in the likes of Pretty Ricky, OldRaider, or Luvthemraiders for a better evaluation. I'm just going off of what I've seen the few times I saw them play.

 

But remember with T being known for the pass, they're gonna gameplan differently.

Best of luck to your secondary. Many schools have tried to zone this year...unsuccesfully, I might add. Maybe Ryle will be different???

Could be wrong but they do seem to be a man scheme team. Not Male style (trail in the hip no inside release) but up close and watching inside. No bump and run either.

 

I will say I was impressed with Ryle in many areas (size, depth, team speed, performance). I never asked the 6-8 Trinity scouts in front of me what they thought.

 

The passing game is going to be the issue because of scheme more than talent. Ryle has the talent to defend the pass but their scheme does not seem to be built to handle the pass very well. This has more to do with formation, shifts and motions then anything else. I have not watched Trinity since Coverdale was there so I am not sure scheme wise what to expect from them.

Ryle's QB has thown for 13 TDs with 2 picks according to the KHSAA site. He is 45 for 96 for 880 yards. No offense Ryle fans, but this would qualify as one-dimensional in must folks opinion. Thats not all bad. Indy Warren Central is one-dimensional, but they are multi-talented as they proved on Ryle's field a few years ago against Elder. Maybe some in-the-know Ryle fans can comment on these stats as well as enlighten me on Ryle's offensive scheme. Thanks.

He missed a few games and they never had to throw the ball. They've used it enough to keep other teams honest. His numbers are a good QB rating and he has a very good arm.

"good QB rating"? he has completed 46% of his passes. It looks like passing is less than a 1/4 of your offense. Its great to keep other teams honest, but what about plan B when some team shuts down the run? If Ryle gets behind are they done?

Honestly, I have had my doubts about the predominately running attack of the Raiders as well. But it is true, they really haven't had a need to throw the ball more than approx. 10 times a game this year. Now whether that will fly against the Rocks.......we'll have to see.

I'm sure they'll mix in a little of both, just as most teams do. They are NOT a predominately man coverage team, and I wouldn't forsee them play a ton of it against T. They do play some man under with safety help on long passing downs. IMO, Ryle's corners won't fair too awful bad, all things considered, against the T wideouts on the outside in MtoM. But against guys in the slot, and the multiple looks coach Cov throws out, I don't know how often that will happen, and that's where some mismatches could be had against MtoM.

Coach Cov is, IMO, without a doubt, the best at getting the most out of his players in the state of KY offensively. I don't think that Ryle will try to outcover T, but rather try to get pressure(not Male pressure, but pressure) on Petrino.

Depends on what you mean by "behind". If T jumps out to a 21 point lead is that trouble for Ryle? Sure, would be for most teams. Our offense isn't built to come from behind quickly. I'd look for Ryle to try to control the clock by running the football, and keep the T offense off the field. Interesting clash of styles, we'll see which one wins out on Thursday.
