mcpapa
Mason County led 10-0 after the first 1:46 on two 3-balls from Trevor Setty and two baskets from Russ Middleton. Scrimmage was played in 4 8-minute quarters with the score resetting to zeroes after each quarter. Quarter scores were: 1st Mason 19, SK 10 2nd Mason 21, SK 16 3rd Mason 24, SK 20 4th SK 21, Mason 19 Total Mason 83, SK 67 My very unofficial scoring (I apologize for not knowing names of SK players, only numbers): Mason County Darius Miller: 26; 3 3-pt goals, 7 2-pt goals, 3 FTs Russ Middleton: 14; 2 3-pt goals, 4 2-pt goals Brad Pawsat: 4; 2 2-pt goals Trevor Setty: 16; 4 3-pt goals, 1 2-point goals, 2 FTs Tyreese Scott: 6; 2 2-pt goals, 2 FTs Ethan King: 2; 1 2-pt goal Tony Browning: 3; 1 2-pt goal, 1 FT Jeremy Thompson: 5; 1 3-pt goal; 1 2-pt goal Keith Downing: 6; 3 2-pt goals Jackson Tolle: 1; 1 FT Simon Kenton #34: 22; 10 2-pt goals, 2 FTs #13: 0 #14: 3; 1 3-pt goal #2: 19; 4 3-pt goals, 3 2-pt goals, 1 FT #23: 13; 2 3-pt goals, 1 2-pt goal, 5 FTs #50: 7; 2 2-pt goals, 3 FTs #20: 0 #42: 0 #25: 0 #3: 2; 1 2-pt goal That only comes to 66 points, I shorted someone a point for SK; that's what I get for not watching every second. Observations: Darius Miller scored at will, made 10 goals including 3 threes, playing somewhere around 24 minutes. Did virtually whatever he wanted offensively; may have missed two shots the entire scrimmage. He could have scored 35 or 40 if it had been a real game and had it been necessary. If he gets doubled, he can find the open man - that part of his game has improved quite a bit. Trevor Setty was deadly from long range. If he gets open, he will hit. Has started both scrimmages for Mason County. Russ Middleton had a nice game tonight, setting the tone early. Nathan Stahl was in street clothes but the cast was off; a good sign. Simon Kenton ran more than I expected (I expected the St. Henry/Bishop Brossart style). Their big man, #34 is very good under the basket; all ten of his field goals were within 5 feet of the bucket. #50 runs the floor very well as the backup for #34. Reminds me just a little bit of a young Troy Cooper. #2 is a nice player, showing good range. JV contest went to Mason County by the score of 41-28. Richie Cox got quite a few minutes. Very entertaining scrimmage played by two quality teams.

mhighfield
Good job mcpapa,I only got to see the 1st half of the varsity as i had a flag football game to play at 7.What i saw when it was the starting 5 for each team in was domination by Mason though.Freshman also won 20-8.Now on to the real deal next week against the green from downtown. Either way Mason sounds like it is ready to defend it's 10th region title and be a top 5 team in the state.
NEERFAN
SK will be fine, sounds like Hurd had a good game, if he's a bit more consistent this season I think the Neers can go a good distance, Hester apparently didn't play too much, he usually scores more than 2. What's the word on his injury?
mcpapa
The green from downtown wont be much for the men in blue will it? I assume that the Mason reserves will get a lot of PT. I didn't get a chance to see the St. Pat green-white game, but I did catch a few minutes of their scrimmage at Harrison County vs. Model, and St. Pat won that very easily. I predict a Mason County-St. Pat score something along the lines of 80-48; ultimately determined by: a)when the MC starters sit, and b) if St. Pat slows tempo way down. Don't know about #3 for SK; he didn't start and only scored one basket according to my notes. In my earlier post with the game summary, the names/numbers of the players are pretty much in order of when they came into the game. If I was correct (and there's no guarantee of that), #3 was the last person off the bench to see action in the varsity game. Don't know if he is a regular and was hurt, etc. As is customary in scrimmages, there was no announcer, no program, etc.

What's the word on his injury? Hey Neerfan I would like to know more about Hester as well. I think the last time I checked on here he had a stress fracture on the growth plate of his right foot. Mason county fans would know who he was if he was his usual self, he is very pesky defensively. Good luck to Mason County the rest of the way and I would love to see them both play again at Rupp.

Based on what I heard about his injury its amazing that he even saw the court at all.

Italian Stallion
What's wrong with him? Broken foot, but I don't know any specifics. He was supposed to be out for the first couple weeks of the regular season.
Tiger1
Hester is the best player on the team. Based on what I heard about his injury its amazing that he even saw the court at all. Then the question becomes...Is it better for him to continue to play with the pain and not be able to help the team the way he could if he was healthy--or would be better for him to have the surgery now and be out say 4-6 weeks and come back in time for February games and post season. Just some thoughts. Any comments appreciated.
PutMeInCoach
They need him at whatever percentage they can take him. No way his backups are on his level injured or not.
Italian Stallion
He can play and produce while injured. I'd sit him the first week or two then let him play.
uknowho1
I dont know why Hester didnt start the game and I also heard that Blevins didnt play at all. As for Hester not doing much, I dont know if it had anything to do with his foot ( hopefully not ) but some kids just dont get up for a scrimmage game. I hope once the season starts he will be back to his old self again.
