Before he retires, assuming he retires around 2022-2023?

It’s a crap shoot. Who knows?

Randomness isn't an option, but if it's truly random, the law of average would indicate a vote of yes.

There's no guarantees in life, but I'm inclined to think that yes, he will return to a Final Four with UK. He's been extremely close the last three years (2018 might actually be the bigger blown opportunity), no reason to think it's different in the next four (by your timeline).

Keep in mind the question is final 4, not win a 2nd title.

It is random. Auburn and Texas Tech both made it for the 1st time and Virginia for the 1st time since 1984. Loyola last year. If it wasn’t random then the top seeds would make it every year. Only one time has that happened in the tournament.

The entire season is random, the great ones can defy the randomness. That’s why some schools are going for their first title, or 9th. Does Cal have one more in him, before his career sunsets?

As noted in a lot of places on this board and others, OAD programs, not just Kentucky, struggle to win Championships or get to the F4.

So the no vote is not a knock on Cal but a recognition of downside of OAD.

Or as they say....

"Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and exuberance."

It's a little bit of a disappointed that the Cats didn't get to another Final Four this year or last with how the tournament shaped up, but that's why they play the games.

In Cal I trust.

If he's at UK four more years, absolutely. Without question.

What if he doesn’t? Objectively, how will his last 8 be measured?

If he doesn't, some UK fans will find a way to rationalize their acceptance of it not happening, knowing good and well it wasn't accepted from the previous coach(es).

It would be measured that UK got Cal at the pinnacle of his career, but also saw him regress from what he was when he first arrived.

I voted yes, that was more of imo Cal will be around for a few more years. I also think that after next season, that may be it for Cal. Only reason I say that is bc his son red shirted for this season and I was thinking that after he finishes next / 2020 season, that Cal may go out with him. …. just a thought.
