What if he doesn’t? Objectively, how will his last 8 be measured?

Good but failure to get back or another couple of championships. I personally believe that he should have had another couple already. This season, the 38-1 team that lost to Wisconsin and another would be the season that the Cats lost to UConn.

The entire season is random, the great ones can defy the randomness. That’s why some schools are going for their first title, or 9th. Does Cal have one more in him, before his career sunsets?

I think the odds are with him. He has 4 already and 3 other Elite 8 appearances.

If he doesn't, some UK fans will find a way to rationalize their acceptance of it not happening, knowing good and well it wasn't accepted from the previous coach(es).

This is where you lost me. I don't understand how fans having a better and more proper outlook - some having started that way and some evolving to it - is a bad thing. I don't think it would be fair to harp on unrealistic expectations from some in the UK fanbase (which is common because, well, there are a lot) and then hammer the same fanbase for having a more proper outlook, or for having seen the error of their ways.

Even if they don't hit a Final Four in the next four years and Cal retires, he will do so as the second longest tenured coach at the school (tied for it with Joe B Hall), second winningest coach at the school (which he already holds), and will have taken them to the second most Final Fours (which, again, he already holds). He'll have an outside shot at having the best winning percentage in school history.

Not a chance unless he changes coaching tactics, including calling timeouts appropriately, changing defenses, scoring on out of bounds plays, and quit cussing and screaming at young kids.

Did Auburn have a timeout left on their last play in regulation?

I agree that’s what I said in an earlier post. It would be hard to believe that he would go 8 years without a final 4, randomness or not.

We are talking about Cal, not Pearl, but Pearl did use a couple really strategic timeouts during the game.

Defense is rarely a problem for Cal teams. So that argument has no merit. Young kids who have played for him seem to love him and truly has become a brotherhood it seems like with former players of his always watching and tweeting about the Cats still. So I think how he treats them is just fine with them. I don't think he called timeouts during the 2011 tournament run which included a last second shot for the win by Knight over the top seeded OSU team. I dont think he took timeouts in any if the games during the 2014 run where they on 4 straight games basically at the very end of games against great teams with experience. Shoot he didnt even take a timeout during the play that won the game against Houston when Herro made the shot. So there seems to be plenty of times where it has worked out in big moments him not calling timeouts. Just like there are plenty of times coaches call timeouts and the play doesnt work. Roy William's has 3 titles and he usually is known for not calling timeouts either in those situations.

Now I will give you the out of bounds plays. It was nice seeing them actually running out of bounds plays against Auburn and scoring off 2 of them. I also will agree at least offensively I would like to see him change the offense some. Like it or not his philosophy has produced one of the best 10 year runs in the history of this program.
