nWo Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I'm issuing my first Brass Monkey Watch of this winter season for all day Wednesday. Temps will be in the single digits Wednesday morning for those around the Ohio River. The rest of the state will see temps from the low teens to 20. These will be the high temperatures for Wednesday. As the Arctic air mass moves across Kentucky temps will fall into the single digits across the entire state by 11 pm EST. Parts of the Cincinnati/NKY area could even be around 0 or a couple of degrees below. The wind chill index will be from the single digits in southern Kentucky to the mid to upper teens north of I-64. I will also post an update about this pending weather condition in the morning.
mcpapa Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Love the title. And much more site-appropriate than Witches’ ______ Watch.
tcjkbt Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I looked up the etymology of the term. Interesting........it is said that cold weather could "freeze the balls off a brass monkey"........the "monkey" being a stand on which cannon balls on a ship were stored. When the weather got cold the brass stand would contract and the balls would fall .......or so the story goes.

Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Louisville temps dropped from 10° to 6° in the last hour. Wind chill here currently has it feeling like -11°.
TheDeuce Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 It honestly didn't feel as bad outside this morning as I was expecting.
True blue (and gold) Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 It honestly didn't feel as bad outside this morning as I was expecting. Just came in from taking the dog out. When the wind isn’t blowing, it’s not bad. When it is, it’s brutal. Wind chill is -18 here.
ChickenWyngz Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 How much snow for NKY tomorrow morning, NWO?
nkypete Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 I just want to know one thing @nWo. If it is this cold and you label it a "Brass Monkey Watch", how bad does it have to get to become a "Brass Monkey Warning"?

If it is this cold and you label it a "Brass Monkey Watch", how bad does it have to get to become a "Brass Monkey Warning"? I've been swamped at work and home and haven't been on much. My plan was to change it to a warning the morning of the 28th.
nkypete Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I've been swamped at work and home and haven't been on much. My plan was to change it to a warning the morning of the 28th. In my mind, it was "a barrel full of brass monkeys" cold!:lol2:
