November 14, 200619 yr M. Williams missed a tackle that caused a TD. Geathers had a huge miss on that pitch where LT broke his legs. Caleb Miller might as well not wear pads. He wached on the "flip pass." I'm 100% convinced James can't guard me. If I do catch a pass, I guarantee he won't tackle me. L. Johnson... again why give him pads. Brooks- How can a MLB get blocked on every single play? I don't think it was a lack of adjustments defensively. I think when we bring 7 guys and they only have 6 blocking we should actually be able to get to the QB, but we can't. Since we can't blitz and pressure, we can't run base D and pressure, our DB's have zero chance at making plays.
November 14, 200619 yr Does anyone watch football? A DT or NT can't do anything to stop the run if you don't have LB's. Our LB's are flat terrible. Also, the Bengals have been pretty good against the run this year. LT is sick. I agree, our LB's are sub par for a top NFL team, next year however. If both return, they should be better than most teams in the NFL...
November 14, 200619 yr Dexter needs to look in the mirror because the past couple of weeks.. he has not covered anybody and actually has missed a couple tackles. I think he is strong and great for the team but he needs to worry about himself. Maybe he is trying to be a leader but you don't call anyone out. The lack of good LB's is hurting them the most. The D-line is playing well against the run. Atleast the past couple of games.
November 14, 200619 yr 26 yards in the first half for the best back in football... they out-adjusted us... I'm not sure about adjustments. I think that with a 3 TD lead the Bengals D mailed it in the 3rd quarter. 15 minutes and 5 Tds later, it was too late. Truly unprofessional how the coaching staff and the D came out in that 3rd quarter. They can point fingers all they want but that D from top to bottom is a joke.
November 14, 200619 yr Your kidding right? If your LB's are terrible and a DT or NT cant do anything to stop the run who is making all your tackles if your defense is good against the run? For how pitiful our LB's are we have had some success in stopping the run. LB's, the D-Line, and DB's are making tackles. What is your point?
November 14, 200619 yr Stopping the run takes DL holding their ground, LB's scraping, S's filling, and CB's forcing from the outside, in other words- all 11 players. The Monday moring QB's want to talk about run-stuffing DT's. I understand what it takes to stop the run, and the problems aren't up front. We have a corner on one side who can't tackle anyone. We have LB's that do not fill. They are great at underpursuing and overpursuing RB's. Our DL has been clogging and making RB's adjust all year. They RB's maintain patience and our LB's will find a way to not be involved. However, the DL can't get to the QB on a pass so anything they do good against the run, they are that bad against the pass.
November 14, 200619 yr I honestly think Sam I Am is one of the few doing his job. Watch a game, he is doubled up on every play he's in there. I like when people pay attention and make posts based on their observations. :thumb:
November 14, 200619 yr I hope Dexter is also looking at the three fingers pointing right back at himself. He's been awful in pass coverage...   Who hasn't for the Bengals? I still say an upgrade on D-line would go a long way toward fixing that. And a youth movement in the secondary wouldn't hurt...out with Tory James and Deltha O'Neal. I think Joseph has a nice upside... ...but, if we don't get a pass rush, it won't matter if we could bring back "Night Train" Lane.

An upgrade on the D-line will help especially if it's a pass rusher, but LB's have to be the main concern of this defense.

How many 4-3 teams can you name with six or seven starting quality LBs on the roster? Our depth is starting. No shock they are having problems...
November 14, 200619 yr The problem on defense is the D-line. If the front four cannot get pressure on a quarterback, then you're not going to stop anyone. Opposing qb's have all day to throw the ball. No matter how good a corner you have, he cannot cover a receiver for 7+ seconds. It just doesn't work. Look at the top defenses in the league. It starts on the line and works it's way back.

I can't understand blitzing and bringing 7 guys when the other team only uses 6 to block and not getting someone there.
November 15, 200619 yr Trouble in Paradise? I got 1 question for you Bengal fans. I thought Sam Adams was going to solve all of your run stopping problems? I actually think it was Chris Henry that said Sam Adams would solve the problems!!!
