As I love our nation's service academies, beating Navy, Air Force, and Army down the stretch isn't going to get you much on your football resume.

It hasn't hurt them, and they only have ARMY before the biggie.

Because one will lose doesn't mean that they still won't be the best two teams.

I guess it depends on the matter of loss.

The ideal situation is for Rutgers to win out and then have the BCS explain why an undefeated team from a BCS conference is not in the NC game.

If ND gets anywhere near the National title game that just really goes to show how terrible the BCS really is.

Because one team loses doesn't mean that they are not the 2nd best team in the nation. When you had 8 undefeated teams 4 weeks ago and Ohio State was 1 and Michigan was 2 they were still ahead of everybody else. If you have one team ahead of everybody else when everybody had no losses why would you not have them rated ahead when everybody has one loss? National Championship is the best two teams not who's turn is it now.

And why is that? If ND goes through this season with its only loss coming against the #2 or maybe will be soon #1 team in the country. I think they would have every reason to be in the title game, because that would also mean they would have beaten the #3 team in the BCS in USC. Then you also have Georgia Tech who is in their conference title game, so if they win that then GT will be in a BCS game, and so that would make 2 wins for ND over two BCS bowl teams. So with ND's only loss coming to one of the best teams in the country, and then also winning 2 games over BCS bowl teams. How would ND not deserve to be in the game?

What I said is if they beat USC at UCS which is the #3 team in the country they would deserve to get there shot. Yeah Michigan flat out dominated them earlier in the year, and I admit that. However I dont think that would win so easily if they play again. So if that is the only loss Notre Dame has and then they have wins against GT and USC who both might be BCS bowl teams, then how have they not earned their shot over any of the other 1 loss teams???

I know you didnt say that they were a top 2 team but you would imply that they would be if you think they should be in the title game. Beating SC would look a lot better on there resume but I wouldnt necessarily say tha USC should be as high as they are either. They havent looked great at all either. GT really isnt all that great outside of Calvin Johnson and are prolly in the conference championship because of the ACC being as terrible as it is. I'm a huge ND fan but lets face it. They have played a weak schedule. One tough game to start the season and one to end it does not equate to an SEC , Big 12, or USC schedule. The perception of something being earned vs given to ND is upsetting and rightly so. IMO its the same argument folks made against the Big East.

And Michigan and OSU have played tough schedules? I mean ND has also beat 3 of the other teams in the weak Big 10 that those two teams have gone undefeated in. ND beat Penn St. Michigan State and Purdue. So if you have ND playing UM the last week of the season then ND would be undefeated right now too. Fair points. However, I'm a big believer in the weekly conference schedule being tougher than an independent schedule. All things being equal, I'll give the conference the edge over the independents.
