The 2006 national title game is safe now that the Big East has eaten its own. West Virginia is gone. Louisville is gone. Unless voters have completely lost their minds -- and here in Ohio, another group of voters did re-elect Jean Schmidt to Congress -- Rutgers won't be a factor, either. Not even if the Scarlet Knights finish the regular season 12-0. Rutgers might well have the country's best player -- Ray Rice for Heisman, please -- but Rutgers cannot throw the ball or stop the run. Someone named "Donald Allen" from a team called "Connecticut" ran for 199 yards against Rutgers two weeks ago. Enjoy this memorable season, Rutgers, but please understand what you are, and what you are not. And you are not Michigan. Or Ohio State. The Wolverines and Buckeyes are the only two teams -- even before a crazy Saturday that saw upset losses by Texas, Auburn and California -- that need to be in the conversation for the national championship game. That could change, but only if the Michigan-OSU game Saturday is a blowout. If they are evenly matched, they should do it again Jan. 8 in the BCS title game. The winner will be undefeated. The loser will be the most deserving one-loss team left. This is not rocket science. This isn't even pre-algebra. This is basic math. To find the best one-loss team in college football, don't look at when they got beat. Look at who beat 'em. And the loser of a competitive Michigan-Ohio State game would have the distinction of having just one loss -- to the undefeated No. 1 team in the country. USC would also deserve a shot if they win out, but I don't see it happening. I do agree that it should not be a difference of when you lose your game, however I think it should be who you lose your games to. Who ever wins the OSU/Michigan game should play for the national title. The loser should not. They already proved themselves unworthy if they lose. Give someone else a shot. If these two teams rematch it makes the regular season POINTLESS. I'd be saying the same thing if two undefeateds were playing against each other in the SEC Conference Finals.

If I was a voter, I'd give USC the edge simply because of the schedule they've played. I'll be happy with either choice but a rematch presents some unwanted problems to the BCS folks.
November 13, 200619 yr The first game will have to be an unbelievable show for it to justify putting a rematch in the National Title game. Personally, I don't think it will happen and I don't think it should happen because the BCS already has taken heat in the past and if you don't honor another 1 loss team then there will be some unhappy people.

Do I think rematch would happen.....No I don't unless Ark.,Fla.,USC, ND would get beat again and imo all of them will not lose 1 the rest of the way out. A thread is on here asking about OSU/Mich. "the game of ther century". Imo a rematch for all the marbles would be the game of the century so to speak.

November 13, 200619 yr Stuff like this is why I had a difficult time explaining to a number of my friends in college why I sit around on Saturday watching my television. They did homework; Sunday was the day they watched football. The BCS makes in nearly impossible to defend a game I truly love to people who think it's just the warm-up day for real football. I'm not watching the first Michigan-Ohio State game (I'll be in the stands elsewhere) and if they play again, I probably won't bother with that one either. College football... home of imaginary champions.

That's assuming game 1 is a thriller..if so...maybe visit it...but being that they both are undefeated in the same conference...I think they should have to exploit a team from another conference, region, etc...

The two best teams in Kentucky high school football are playing three weeks before the champonship game... so it's not totally far-fetched...
