I agree with that statement. As much as I would like to see a blow-out, it wont happen. RC will score, they have an awesome offense. JC has to control the time of possession, in RC's last game, they held Bell County to almost no time of possession. I still think JC is a better team than RC. Even though Matney has never beat RC, I know he has the team and coaching staff to lead JC to a win.

If JC thinks they can hang with Rockcastle and play like they did Friday night, they will be in for a big surprise. JC will need to play the best game of the year to win this one, and even then its going to be extremely close. Rockcastle is a great football team with a great coaching staff. I think this one will be a war and has the potential to be a great high school football game. This one goes to the team that wants it the most.

 

I can't make a predition because its to close to call.

Does Rockcastle have a nice crowd to travel? Can we expect another standing room only game like last week?

I am a Lawrence County fan and I have a lot of friends up at Central so I will be attending this game for sure Friday night. I have seen a lot of great Rockcastle teams and I know what they bring to the table and I respect the JC program and what they have done but JC will need to play a A++++ game to beat Rockcastle. Rockcastle just is one of those programs that just reloads the chamber every year. Good luck to both teams.

Rock travels in herds, their attendance is always huge espcially in the playoffs. I'd expect 1500 to 2000 to make the trip, not too mention all the spectators whose teams aren't playing and then JC's crowd. I'd guess you will have to use your tippie toes to see the game.

It is a 3500-4000 seat concrete bleacher. It is the only bleachers JC has. JC has allowed fans to stand around the field. They have put up a temporary fence around some parts of the field so more people can attend.

I agree with 3wishes on the attendance. Rock set the 3A attendance record for the state game in 2001. I'm sure it will be shoulder to shoulder.

 

Just an interesting observation that I've made. It doesn't really mean much, but here goes. Not counting the two out of state teams that JC played, the 8 in state teams they played were something like 36-44. The team from WV at one time was like 1-5. But I didn't count them. The 10 teams that Rock played were 50-50. That's counting 0-10 Bourbon Co. and 1-9 PCC. If you take those away, Rock's opponents were 49-31. A much better percentage than JC's schedule.

 

But like I said, it doesn't really mean much. I'm excited about this one. It should be smashmouth football at its best. Of course I'm picking the Rock to win. But I always pick them.

I'm sure coach Jim Matney has to be on cloud 9. The birth of his first child, a boy, T.D. Matney. Leading JC to a 12-0 record and taking JC to their first ever regional title game. I know his wife Debbie wanted JC to beat Ashland friday night, that was the night his son was born. I seriously doubt we will see the new mom and the little guy friday night. But we will see Johnson Central win.

I talked to Brad and his parents last night after the game. I wished him luck wherever he went and he replied with "Thanks. We'll go somewhere." So it's anybody's guess. Either he hasn't decided or doesn't want to announce it until after the season is over. I would like to see him at UK. Perhaps his former Rock teammate, Jason Leger, can convince him to go there.

Last year when I watched Ashland and Rockcastle in the second round of the playoffs, he played Offensive and Defensive Tackle if I remember correctly.

Well here it is. The matchup that many have anticipated is upon us and I must say, I have mixed emotions. About 5 weeks ago, I would have said that JC was a good 3 Touchdown favorite over Rockcastle, but now.... Rockcastle, as it always does, seems to be clicking at the right time and will give Johnson Central all they want and more. I usually am quick to give my prediction of the game, and usually do so on Friday night but this game is one that could easily go to either team. But here we go.

 

These two teams are nearly equal in every category across the field. I watched this Rockcastle line against Ashland last year and they were very good. The are exceptionally big and strong. Johnson Central doesnt come close to matching their size but strength I believe is nearly equal. Johnson Central is faster on both sides of the line though I do believe. Both teams have great backs which could make for alot of highlight runs. The defenses, as everyone know, are as good as they come. Here is where I believe two teams are separated. Last year Rockcastle's QB, although small, was able to scramble well and had deceptive arm strength. This year Rockcastle doesnt seem to have that. Johnson Central on the other hand, has a QB that has a very nice arm, and as we seen last week, will cause Rock to play honest instead of overloading the line of scrimmage. JC may also use one of its backup QB's to give the defense a seperate look if need be. Also I believe JC has the kicking edge. In a close game, field position will always be a huge factor. JC's kicker Barrett pins the ball inside the 10 everytime and has the ability to hit the endzone. I must say, Im glad this team finally got a close game under its belt cause adversity this week I believe is something we may have to overcome. "The Nest" will be rockin once again this week, and with Belfry being the only other team in our area playing, we should see alot of ppl from other schools coming to watch this one. This one will be a dandy a could easily go either way, but I have to take the home team. My prediction:

 

Johnson Central: 21

Rockcastle Co.: 20

I'll take the more battle-tested Rock 28-14.
